Display resolution: 3440 x 1440 pixels, HD type: UltraWide Quad HD, Display technology: OLED, Response time: 0. The panel health meter shows green, yellow or red based on how long it’s been since the panel or pixel refresh functions were last used. You can’t rotate the panel to portrait mode, but 5 degrees of slant is built-in, ostensibly to accommodate desktops that aren’t level. You can see a component bulge in the back surrounded by a grill that effectively vents the small amount of heat generated by the AW3423DWF. It looks best in dark rooms because it displays deep blacks without blooming, but it looks worse in bright rooms as ambient light causes the black levels to raise.
It does go fairly bright too, but I've seen brighter - and as an IPS the colours and blacks are decent but obviously not in the same league as OLED.If you need a monitor where the maximum refresh rate works over all inputs, check out the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8/G85SB S34BG85.
I have a slight gripe with being able to rest my webcam easily in the centre - the screen is quite thick and my Logitech C920 doesn't stay on it particularly easily. Colour accuracy is really good out of the box - I use a calibration tool to get a neutral color balance and only needed to reduce the blues by 5% on my specific unit. While one of the major concerns of the Dell Alienware AW3423DW was its audible fan noise, the issue isn't as prevalent with this monitor.
Annoyances aside, this is still an amazing experience for anyone who has only used TN, VA or IPS panel monitors. Its QD-OLED panel aims to combine the perfect black levels of OLEDs with the wide range of colors of quantum dot displays, but like other first-generation QD-OLED displays, it still lacks a polarizing layer, and the black levels raise in bright rooms. The reason I recommend the AW3423DWF for gaming is that it delivers a magnificant image that works in a wide range of games, with a fast enough refresh rate to suit competitive play along with the colours, viewing angles and clarity that enhances more cinematic single-player titles.
