About this deal

The last victim was the one that broke the camels back for Annie, she was very close to the victim, the author made you feel the emotionally pull between Annie and the mother's last victim. Land chooses not to delve into the story of this character in-depth, rather, she is described in a distant and dreamy sense by Annie’s recollections. I really didn’t like the way in which he abused his figure as Milly’s therapist and foster carer for his own selfish needs. This book is full of suspense and Ali Land who has quite a different style of writing succeeds in gripping the reader and encourages them to read just one more chapter again and again.

Based on the number of reviews spelling Milly as Millie, I really am wondering if there are two versions of this book out there. As her mother's trial gets ever nearer, Milly is given preparation for the questioning that she will face in court. It’s the second ‘evil mother novel’ I’ve read recently (the other being the wonderful Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine), and of the two Good Me, Bad Me definitely wins the most chilling mother award.

When her mother is put in prison she is taken in by a foster family who also have a teenage daughter the same age. The foundation of this story is built on Milly starting her shiny new life at the age of 15, having just turned in her mother for the atrocious crimes. This is a perspective which is fast becoming a trend going by my recent reads: victim lit or, perhaps more appropriately, survivor lit. When finally turns her mother into the police, Annie is given the opportunity to start over and create a new identity. You may find book reviews, chocolate sampling, adventures with squirrels, and a lot of tea drinking, happening here.
