Expecting Better caused quite a pleasant stir when it came out for its bold and common sense approach, which is to hold your hand through your pregnancy and take on all the health and science facts you need without feeling overwhelmed.

Written by senior midwife Marie Louise, this well-rounded read has plenty of advice and information on its binge-worthy pages. The book is packed with facts about how your baby develops inside you - and how much they already know about you, from their life inside the womb. Most pregnancy books come in traditional hardback or paperback print versions and are great for making notes on and putting Post-its in, but a lot of them are also available on an ebook reader, which is light and can be easily transported. Then there’s information about what happens straight after your baby is born and the first 12 hours after.

Key concept : A timeline of the pregnancy journey using images, boxouts and listicles to help describe possible pregnancy symptoms, exercise techniques and much more. We borrowed this book for our first pregnancy and thought it was funny-bad but still bought it for our second pregnancy because reading aloud from the book every day became a valued tradition. It’s packed with all the information you need for both you and your partner, with insights and tips from the experts in the field. There’s a detailed account of the first 12 hours after your birth as well as more information about your baby’s first two weeks and how your body recovers. It can really help you make informed decisions and I also believe that it will help prepare you mentally for the pain and the whole process. I liked that there was something for every day, but it's also just one page per day so even if you miss a few, it's easy to catch up. In addition to this one, I've read about eight other books on pregnancy, and I think this was the one I liked best.

The Day-by-Day Pregnancy Book: Count Down Your Pregnancy Day

Some parents-to-be enjoy having a month-by-month rundown of what’s happening to their body and baby, and that’s just what you get in this book.

I understand the concept is to give women something to read every day of their pregnancy but seriously who has the time. There’s already enough to complete on your neverending to-do list before the baby arrives, and the last thing you want is an overload of information that could leave you more confused than before.
