About this deal

Manual coffee grinders require some elbow grease to create the grind and consistency you’re looking for. These powerhouses come with a wide range of grinder settings allowing you to brew freshly ground coffee at home.

Whereas most electric coffee grinders offer more flexibility as you can change the grind size, shot size, grind time and quantity. With over 15 years of experience in the coffee-making industry, I can spot a high-quality espresso grinder from a mile away. Measuring in at a total of 16 x 21cm the base is fairly small for a grinder of this quality so you may be able to convince the other half that it could be a permanent fixture in the kitchen. For several years after this, this didn't happen again, and I do think it's actually quite rare, but I have heard from a few people who have had this same issue over the years.

I just want to give a little bit of attention to the hopper, as I realize that a lot of people look at the hopper and hopper capacity etc. I know a lot more about grinders these days, so I understand that these don't have “true” burrs, they have “flat grinding wheels” which crush beans, and it's a common misconception that this is what burrs do, but actually, burrs are made to more or less “chew” beans into uniform chunks, not so much to crush them. I haven’t cleaned the grinder much at all to be honest, in the four years I’ve had the grinder I’ve only cleaned it properly a few times. Take control over your freshly roasted beans with 60 precise grind settings that give you up-to-the-second control.

That being said, I am a drummer, and for many years I didn't wear earplugs when I really should have, and I'm a loud drummer, the guitarists in the bands I've been in have been just as loud, so my hearing isn't the greatest. A shim is just a wedge under a burr, for example with the Gaggia MD15 it's possible to grind for espresso by removing the outer burr from the burr holder (removing the two screws) and putting a thick piece of paper or a thin piece of card under, as the “shim”, and then putting it back on.If you’re just starting out and learning the ins and outs of espresso then the Intuitive nature of the Smart Grinder Pro will aid your learning. The exterior design of Sage Smart Grinder Pro is sturdy and made of high-quality materials that can survive a few knocks, as you would expect from an entry-level espresso grinder. One problem I have had recently was for the first time I decided to remove the lower burr for cleaning.
