About this deal

We quite enjoyed them, and we're confident runners looking for speedy stability shoes will enjoy them too.

Our testers loved the plush step-in feel provided by the Ortholite liner and agreed that the Glycerin 18 offered the perfect amount of cushioning without being so soft underfoot that responsiveness is lost. They deliver that with features like a deep heel cup and a stiff counter designed as only Brooks can. You'll be pleased that your strides don't get eaten up in cushion, but neither do your bones crack every time you land. Get Sweat Go editor Tom has cycled across mountains, swam through lakes, raced around the world and desperately tried to avoid injury at the CrossFit Open. The biggest difference here is that the midsole and outsole ratio was altered a bit so that there's more cushion from the DNA LOFT midsole and a bit less rubber in the outsole.Tom is a qualified PT, a dedicated hiker, a consistently mediocre tennis player and a runner with 11 marathons and over 300 other races under his belt. As for its performance, I see the Glycerin 18 as a daily trainer with ample cushioning for everyday running or long slow distance runs. If you are looking for protection from the road that doesn't sacrifice responsiveness, the Brooks Glycerin 18 offers soft cushioning that doesn't feel dead when it's time to pick up the pace.

The Glycerin 18 has some extra diagonal midsole lines that the 19 doesn’t have but other than that, it would be very difficult to tell them apart on the road. The Glycerin 18 is one of our favourite options when it comes to daily training miles, offering an incredibly comfortable and enjoyable shoe to run in whether you're doing 5km or 42km. We understand if there's dissent here from longtime fans — we'd disagree on the value if we were looking for a pure comfort model too. Compared to the other max-cushioned trainers, the Glycerin 19’s ride is a tad firmer but it is more stable because there is less lean bias. The streamline double jacquard mesh upper is stretchy to adapt to the way your foot moves, whilst ensuring breathability.ADRIENNE: Tech bros at Brooks– this shoe has the potential to be a badass daily trainer/easy mileage shoe; but please liven up the midsole. The heel of the shoe seems to have a good amount of play to it and I think a good number of runners with narrower feet and ankles may need the heel lock or to size down as the shoe seems to run a touch big. The material doesn’t stay laced well like your standard shoelace, plus on a rainy run they felt as if they absorbed more water. He's also worked for Under Armour from 2016 to 2018 and helped launch their running collection in Europe (in particular the HOVR shoes).

The DNA LOFT midsole is fairly dense and might even feel stiff to some runners, though it still has a lot of compression in the heel. Over the past few years Brooks has been updating their high cushion trainer to try to drop weight as competitors do likewise. It’s one of the smoothest-riding, max-cushioned trainers on the market due to its single density midsole and its outsole configuration. It still can get heavy on the long runs or when they get wet, although they seem to dry off quicker than the 17s. There is no tongue slide in the Glycerin because of the sleeved tongue and the overall comfort is better. It’s very important to know your running gait so that we can advise and fit the correct shoes according to your own individual requirements.
