About this deal

She sat down with us recently to speak about her work, what inspires her to go out into the wilderness at night, and how preparation is the key to success. What was the focusing speed comparison of the two lenses on the Sony body, with either of the lens adapters used on the Sigma lens?

I just recently bought the Viltrox MkII and am very happy with it, except for the lens hood, which is a pain to attach. Around the lens mount a rubber gasket can be found, Sigma claims the lens to be dust and weather proof. will give you better build quality, more features, and better image quality across the frame although for true sharpness in the corners you will need to close down the aperture considerably. is that stopped down enough for your needs or did you detect any significant gain stopping down further? No one has ever thrown an adapter on a canon or Nikon to compare those lenses to each other and yet those lenses have been compared on different bodies for years. However the Sony has even nicer bokeh to my taste, with some undercorrected SA and less optical vignetting. Since we see no point in repeating that and since we have been working with the less expensive, but still regarded Sony FE 85mm f/1. They’re shedding weight from some of their most impressive lenses, and even more exciting is this fact: The new mirrorless lenses are just as sharp, or even sharper! Seriously, have used both, own thr Sigma 85, and I can do things with it I mever could with the Canon because of the latter's AF speed and accuracy. We tested focus both in still and video (including the touch feature on the monitor of our A7R IV) and we can’t really see any advantage for the Sony.

The main exception is the lack of built-in Vibration Reduction, although the very fast maximum aperture of f/1. Despite the color fringing, which seems not to be much of an issue with my copy, though I struggle, I cannot find a way to justify a new 85. We’re not looking at a fast prime that’s only made in Sony E-mount either; it’s also available in L-mount for use with Leica, Sigma and Panasonic full-frame cameras.

Both lenses are very good, I have the Sigma 85 Art so my opinion might be biased slightly, The Sony does better than the sigma in regards LoCa but I do feel the sigma is sharper and I do prefer the bokeh from the Sigma, The colour fringing in the Sonys bokeh balls are distracting in the sample images, I feel as both lenses had been adapted to the sony body it is very hard to draw conclusions on which lens is better.
