About this deal

I reported a few issues with the Palette Master Element software previously and although some of my reported issues have been addressed, other issues such as incorrect setting of white point in the generated ICC profile are still there.

In terms of reproducible colors, the SW271 delivers 99 percent of the Adobe RGB color space (so, obviously, 100 percent of sRGB) and 93 percent of DCI-P3 which is a cinematographic color space that’s now taking over from sRGB (it has a 25 percent wider coverage) as a standard for color reproduction on transmissive displays, including tablets and smartphones. is quite heavy, although the stand has no problem supporting the weight, whilst offering ease of adjustment for height, tilt and orientation. DisplayCAL is wonderful for evaluating uniformity – I wish every piece of software (including Palette Master) had this test built-in.The SW271 has a 14-bit 3D LUT (Look-Up Table) which enables hardware calibration independent of your computer’s colour management. It also has some features built in to help those who often cross lines into video work, namely HDR10 and HLG support as well as 24p/25p/30p support.

I can’t see many differences between the spec of the CS2730 and CS2731 (the USB-C would have been nice). Designed for photography, and colour accurate work such as graphic design, the monitor is designed to work with BenQ's Palette Master Element software, which is used to calibrate the monitor display, and updates the monitor's LUT (Colour Look Up Tables) to ensure accurate colour is consistently displayed. These are pretty decent results, and similar to my previous results with the SW320, the display whitepoint Delta was again out of whack, thanks to the bug in the ICC profile generation by Palette Master, which seems to force 5000K even after picking 6500K white point during the calibration process. Additionally, the gradation from saturation to subtle is seamlessly smooth, and the colour fidelity is complimented by deep, solid blacks. You can quickly change between calibration profiles using the remote controller,Aside from the power button on the bottom right, there are five more buttons that are used to navigate the on-screen display (OSD). You get the same plastic exterior, the same chunky bezels, the same circular menu buttons, and the same 5-piece monitor hood. Looks much better, although for some reason both SW271 displays had trouble reproducing pure blacks – that was the most troubling area during the calibration process. The combination of 4K resolution, wide color gamut coverage, 16-bit 3D LUT, and more makes it a fairly high-end option for professionals who want to edit pictures.

I’ve been reading your review on the BenQ SW271 – even though it seems like a good monitor but I’m not a big fan of colour/brightness uniformity issues as it makes editing images harder. However, we still suggest you manually calibrate your monitor at least once a month to retain that level of precision. The black and white color mode, on the other hand, is a pretty cool feature of the monitor, something I have never seen before on other monitors.

I did a quick inspection of the screens using a white background and I didn’t notice any dead pixels or any serious brightness problems. Personally, I had no plans to hook up a media player or an external device to play back video content, so I didn’t use it at all, aside from just checking it out. billion colors” with a grain of salt until you’ve checked the monitor’s panel specs with Display Specifications or a similarly reputable source. Personally, I have resisted to move up to 4K for a long time, because I saw little benefit of switching.

Dedicated photo monitors have been an expensive purchase in the past, but BenQ is bringing affordability to the market. So reliable HW cal (HW+SW) + good uniformity + 8bit panel and dither from manufacturer A wins hands down to a native 10bit panel without the other features. This by-passes the five function keys arrayed along the lower right-hand front of the monitor (also the location of the on/off button), and works in conjunction with the monitor’s on-screen menus for set-up and adjustment. An added attraction for both photographers and video-makers is the availability of an HDR mode and the associated increase in dynamic range. In comparison, the SW271 turned out to be a perfect companion to the iMac Pro size-wise, with both displays being roughly the same.
