Teach your little ones all about this popular children's book with our range of Peace At Last activities and resources. Use role-play props and masks to bring this book to life. Your kids can have fun during class and at play, pretending to be Mr or Mrs Bear and making up their own noises. Watch this video which retells the story. Could you record your own voice reading the story with lots of expression? Design a machine that might help Mr Bear sleep. You could use this example from Wallace and Gromit to give you some ideas: Play ‘I hear with my little ear’. Listen to what sounds you can hear outside in the garden or inside. Say “I hear, with my little ear, something that sounds like…” and try to copy the noise with your voice. Write a description of what it is like in your house at night. What does it look like? What does it sound like? What does it feel like?

Mr Bear hears lots of sounds during the night. Can you find the words which describe these sounds? Can you think of any other words that describe a sound?

Look at photographs of night time scenes (see Resources below).?Can you use these to draw / paint your own pictures of places at night?Rewrite the story from the point of view of Mr Bear. How was he feeling at each point in the story? Find out why we need sleep. How does it help our bodies? What happens if we don’t get as much sleep as we need? Mr Bear eats a sandwich in the middle of the night. Write a set of instructions to teach someone how to make their own delicious sandwich. Peace At Last' is all about a night where poor old Mr Bear just can't get to sleep! All through the night, we hear about the different noises and distractions that keep Mr Bear awake.

Think about how Mr Bear will sleep the next night. Ask your child, “Will there be different sounds keeping Mr Bear awake? What might they be?”
