About this deal

Capacity (Wh) / DC input rate (W) = Charge time (h). How Long Does RIVER 2 Take to Fully Charge Using the USB-C Input? Because it can power 80% of high-wattage home appliances, the RIVER 2 Pro isn’t just for camping or off-grid adventures. With a 30ms switchover speed during a power outage, you can ensure virtually uninterruptible power for essential appliances in your home — anything from a laptop to a fish tank. Pros Sure, you can now get portable projectors with built-in batteries that last up to two hours — like the Halo+— but if you’re looking to use a full-fledged projector while outdoors, you’ll need a beefy power station. Even if your appliance has an operating wattage of 300W, RIVER 2 could only run that one appliance. And, due to the battery storage capacity of 256Wh, RIVER 2 can’t even run your 300W device for an hour (watt-hours and kilowatt-hours measure electricity consumed over time).

ECOFLOW Portable Power Station RIVER 2 MAX, 512Wh LiFeP04

Any EcoFlow PPS can serve as an emergency power source (EPS) with a 30-millisecond switch time when using power from an AC wall outlet. My intension with the review was to fully charge the battery on the River 2 Max and drain it several times. So I started out using it for charging phones and a multitude of accessories around the house, and I immediately realized that wasn’t going to cut it. The River 2 Max has a 512Wh battery, and it would easily charge the likes of the Galaxy S23 Ultra for a few weeks before the battery ran out. Like the RIVER 2, the RIVER 2 Max reaches a full charge in about an hour using AC electricity or approximately three hours if you use solar panels. It also boasts an exceptional lifespan, thanks to a LiFePO4 battery that can last a decade or more without diminishing efficiency. I used the River 2 Max for just over three months now, and other than the minor quibble around the solitary USB-C port, I have no issues with the power station. It performed incredibly well in daily use, powering most products I have in the house without any issues whatsoever. The ability to charge the unit via solar power makes it that much more versatile, and if you choose to use the AC option, there's fast charging that takes under an hour to fully charge the battery.

EcoFlow RIVER 2 Max Portable Power Station

RIVER 2 has an operating AC output of 300W (running watts) and a surge power AC output of 600W (starting watts) using X-Boost. The best portable power station for you depends on your use case and electricity consumption needs. The River 2 delivers the power it stores without fuss: I could use it to run and charge laptops, phones, cameras, and small appliances like a fan. My phone charged at a decent rate of 14 Watts, while my laptop got the maximum 60 Watts that the USB-C port on the front of the River 2 could output. If any of your devices have a higher starting wattage, you’ll also need to factor that in. RIVER 2 provides up to 600W starting watts (surge power) using X-Boost mode. Can You Run RIVER 2 and Charge It at the Same Time? The device works great for its intended use which is to run my work-from-home setup during loadshedding. It can run my laptop, monitor and a network switch for just under 4 hours (about 25 - 30 watt load). Gaming is also possible with this unit but it depends on your hardware... Xbox Series S and a monitor requires around 80-90 watts during gameplay. A larger console or gaming PC will reduce this time because they use a lot more power. X-Boost enables RIVER 2 to power up to 99% of consumer electronics (smartphones/tablets/ laptops etc). The RIVER 2 takes about three hours to charge fully using your car’s cigarette lighter. Its maximum DC input is 12/24, 8A, or 100W Max, and the PPS battery storage capacity is 256Wh.

The 512Wh battery is ideally suited for camping activities, and there's enough power on offer to charge phones, notebooks, and other tech accessories in addition to projectors. The fact that the batteries are based on LiFePO4 tech means they should be much more durable than standard Lithium-ion batteries, and the long-term warranty alleviates any worries in this area. Many appliances list their power requirements in volts or amps. You can easily calculate the watts by multiplying the volts and amps together: For example, you can connect it to an EcoFlow 220W Bifacial Portable Solar Panel since the solar Input of RIVER 2 is 8A Max,11-30V 110W, and the Open Circuit Voltage of EcoFlow 220W Bifacial Portable Solar Panel is 21.8V, which falls within that range. However, any extra electricity produced over 110W gives you no additional benefit.

It’s the perfect PPS for portability and charging your essential personal devices. But if you want to operate even relatively low-wattage camping appliances on extended trips (more than a day or two), RIVER 2 Pro or DELTA 2 is likely a better option. As mentioned above, consider what devices and appliances you want to use. The starting and running wattage needs of your appliances can help you determine what portable power options are available to you. However, you can use two RIVER 2s simultaneously but separately. For example, use one to power your lighting while the other powers your box fan.

Battery capacity, measured in kilowatt-hours, is the number of watts the power station can deliver multiplied by the number of hours. For example, running a device that requires 200 Wh of electricity consumption for ten hours requires 2 kWh — the same capacity as operating a device that requires 2000 watts for one hour of use. If you plan to power multiple appliances simultaneously, you’ll need to add up the sum of their wattages. To be safe, allot five to six hours for your RIVER 2 to charge fully using the USB-C input. Is RIVER 2 Expandable? The RIVER 2 series is the first-ever collection of portable power stations to be TÜV Rheinland certified, meaning their safety, durability, and quality is evaluated by independent experts and found to be beyond reproach. The other crucial determining factor in what appliances a portable power station can run is its AC Output. RIVER 2 offers 300W (running wattage) and surge power of 600W (starting watts) thanks to X-Boost. The additional starting wattage gives you the flexibility to run up to 99% of consumer electronics. Can the RIVER 2 Be Used as an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)?

The River 2 Max charges just about anything you have, and has all the ports you need.

You can recharge while you operate using any of RIVER 2’s four charging methods — including solar panels. Can I Connect Two RIVER 2s Together in Parallel? However, if you’re powering something like a lightbulb at 60 running watts, you could get over 4 hours of power. RIVER 2’s maximum solar input is 110W. You can use any solar panel with a rated power of 110W (or slightly above) to charge the RIVER 2 — instantly turning it into a solar generator! Add up the running and starting wattages of your essential appliances, then confirm your portable power station can meet or exceed your needs. Between uses, you can charge up to 80% in only 50 minutes using AC power or three to six hours with optional solar panels. The DELTA 2 supports up to 500W of solar charging input. Pros
