About this deal

Manns Finishing Pads and the act of Denibbing. Denibbing is the removal of “nibs” and imperfections from your finish, and it should be performed between each coat of any finish applied. The cordless Perfect-it™ Denibbing Tool uses Trizact™ abrasive stems for consistent, pinpoint sanding of dirt nibs and very small repair areas. Unlike conventional abrasives, 3M™ Trizact™ products start sharp and stay sharp, resulting in more predictable finishes and improved, consistent quality. Trizact™ products last longer than conventional abrasives and provide precise finish control such that operators can reduce grade sequences, requiring fewer process steps and fewer abrasive products. Three-dimensional structures uniformly distributed over the entire abrasive surface enable consistent performance without product-to-product variation. Our 3M™ Perfect-It™ Denibbing System (PDF, 2 Mb) is a revolutionary way to remove dirt defects in auto body paint surfaces. The system uses snap-on abrasive stems and lightweight, cordless microsanding tools which can eliminate the time and expense of sanding and polishing entire freshly-painted panels for small repairs. Instead, you precisely remove individual dirt nibs and re-polish the surface. Each repair area is no larger than a US quarter. This small area repair technique also significantly reduces water mess and compound slush, saving cleanup time.

Operators understand it well: denibbing paintwork can be a temperamental — if tedious — process. You want to eliminate small imperfections without affecting the surrounding surface areas. 3M™ Perfect-It™ Denibbing Polish was engineered to reduce the time it takes to remove these tiny but noticeable imperfections. I saw that denibbing is recommended with fiddes hardwax oil, how do you do this for a large area such as a floor? I assume you don’t use handheld finishing pads? Can a Floor Sander Drum be used with a fine grain or would this be too heavy handed and strip the finish?

Hi, I’m Ben O’Reilly From Wood Finishes Direct and Welcome to the Product Test and How to Video Guide, in this video I am going to be discussing After the surface is completely covered rub down with a clean lint free cloth to make sure oil coverage is even. With its cordless micro-sanding and micro-polishing tools, advanced abrasives, pads, cloths and liquid polishes, our Perfect-It™ Denibbing System brings small area repair to your auto body operation. It's another way that 3M uses solid science to change the way collision repair technicians prepare painted surfaces, and to revolutionize paint shop productivity. As mentioned above, it is vital that worktops are treated straight away – that is why our pre-installation oiling service is a mandatory requirement if purchasing another option from our bespoke cutting service (freshly cut timber can be susceptible to movement and therefore immediate oil treatment is required if wood is to be cut or altered in any way). Our pre-oiling service will ensure that your worktop reaches you in superb condition. Denibbing is all about the feel. Your project should feel smooth. If it doesn’t that means that more denibbing is required, and after that if it still isnt smooth then it probably hasn’t been as sanded as well as it should of. I know of course if you’ve been watching my video’s that won’t be the case.Get our specialist 3M Paint Preparation Pads to prepare panels before painting and keying alloy wheels and bumpers ready for refinishing. Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit removes contamination and restores a smooth surface to your paint finish! Take the denibbing pads that can be found in our DIY Worktop Aftercare Kit and lightly rub the worktop down (the colour may appear slightly duller after this but do not be alarmed: you are temporarily removing a small portion of the oil to start with, this will allow for a silky finish later).

A traditional way to seal and protect wooden surfaces whilst achieving a sympathetic natural finish. So if I understand correctly denibbing pads are basically any soft sanding pads at the required grit?

Mirka Mirlon denibbing pads are especially designed for sanding surfaces prior to the application of finishing coats, primers or lacquers. The pads work excellently when sanding wood, plastic, metal components as well as painted surfaces where their woven structure resists clogging. Once the worktop is completely clean, you can begin to apply Rustin’s Danish oil, or our own Worktop Express Danish Oil for Worktops. Add a layer to the top and edges paying special attention to the end grain (this tends to be more absorbent than the rest of the worktop and may require extra coats). We have a great video on our You Tube Channel all about Denibbing >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR10L68iU_E&t=2s you only need to denib between coats to reduce the grain and give a smoother finish. You also need to wipe over the surface with a damp cloth to remove any sanding dust. Denibbing pads may be used wet or dry for cleaning/removal of impurities, oxides and dirt. The three dimensional structure of the pads is easy to use on contoured surfaces and profiles, as well as areas which are difficult to reach. Mirka Mirlon pads are recomended when decorating for the removal of raised grain on timber after an initial coating has been applied, and recommended for denibbing between subsequent coats. Repeat the process – as many times as you desire. The more coats you apply in these early stages, the stronger and more attractive the timber will become.
