If your iron has to work harder to produce steam, it means it’s using extra electricity, which will make your bills higher. You can then use your iron as normal and squirt the ironing water onto your laundry and iron the creases out. When I am organised I use a low calcium bottled water (possibly something like Stretton Hills?). If I was very organised I'd add a drop of something scented as well, but that is never likely to happen. Ironing water should be added to the water reservoir on the steam iron in the correct quantity (as stated on the bottle) and mixed with your regular 50:50 mix. After use, the contents of the water reservoir should be poured away. There are a number of products on the market that claim to descale your steam iron in the same way they can your kettle. It is perfectly fine to just use regular tap water in your steam iron. You will just need to descale your iron regularly to prevent a build up of limescale.

To prevent a buildup of limescale, many steam irons have a calc-clean function. This function is designed to remove any hard, mineral deposits and all that you need to do is rinse the inside of the iron to wash them away. i know its a nice to have as opposed to a need to have - so does anyone have any nice OS ideas for the same kind of thing? Using Comfort Ironing Water is easy: simply pour it directly into the water reservoir of your steam iron and you’re ready to go. First-time use: Before using Comfort ironing water for the first time, it’s important to descale your iron to avoid limescale deposits. Follow your iron manufacturer’s descaling instructions. In addition to this, a lot of people just use normal tap water in their irons and their irons work just fine. Please note that during particularly busy periods, it may take a little longer to receive your delivery and our carrier may attempt to deliver to you on a Saturday.

To create steam in your iron there’s a heating element that heats the water and turns it into vapour. If there’s a buildup of limescale on that element it takes more energy to heat the water to the same degree. My Comfort ironing water is about to run out, so could anyone recommend a more natural alternative or even making my own? I'm in the process of replacing all my household products with less chemically stuff. There are some ironing water manufacturers that claim their product can prevent or at least, cut down any chances of static buildup. You might think that distilled water would be best for use in a steam iron as all of the impurities and minerals have been removed.
