About this deal

The unspecified time and setting makes The Journey quite universal; the fear of the unknown balanced out by hope and dreams for the future. Amnesty International UK 2019. The illustrations within this picture book are wonderful, and quite fairy-tale like, which contributes the the story as for the central character I would imagine that this journey feels unreal.

Each weekly unit is structured in a T.E.A.M.S. format, incorporating each of the following elements. T.E.A.M.S. stands for Truth, Equipping, Accountability, Mission and Supplication. A young family’s safe world is turned upside down when war arrives, causing turmoil in their lives and forcing them to flee in search of safety. Told through the eyes of one of the children, the story follow their journey across hills and through forests, over enormous walls and stormy seas, encountering things both wondrous and scary in their search for a new home. The Journey is a Gospel centered resource for discipleship that is designed to help a disciple maker develop mature and equipped followers of Christ, who will be able to do the same with others. The powerful teachings of The Journey were born from Brandon’s own direct experience of healing from a large tumor in just 6 ½ weeks – without drugs or surgery. This teaching sequence spans approximately 26 sessions, providing ample opportunities for educators to teach advanced reading and writing skills through an evocative and challenging text. The vivid illustrations encourage reader response and reflection on complex themes, allowing for in-depth exploration of sensitive content and inspiring creative, authentic responses. The book’s inspiration came when author and illustrator Francesca Sanna met two girls in a refugee centre in Italy. She then began interviewing more refugee families in Europe, and created this book as a tribute to their plight and strength. Many feel ashamed and unwanted after years of struggling with sexual brokenness. Unwanted invites you to see that in this brokenness, God can work powerfully in your life. An essential book that not only introduces children to the importance of human rights, freedom, and the history of these concepts, but also to a wonderful variety of illustrations. Calling on her own mind-body healing knowledge, and the teachings of scientists such as Dr Deepak Chopra and Dr Candace Pert, Brandon innocently began to develop the transformational healing work that would become The Journey®.

Kevin Billett has partnered with Brandon Bays in The Journey for some 18 years. He is co-founder and CEO of The Journey companies and has co-designed with Brandon many of the curriculum events. He is pioneer of the Visionary Leadership Programme, Out of the Blue and The Enneagram Masterclass The Journey by Neil Griffiths is a lovely rhyming story for KS1 - great for your journeys or transport topic! I found this title listed on the longlist for the Kate Greenaway Medal for illustrated children's books. I enjoy finding new illustrators even when the books are aimed for children. The visual style of Francesca Sanna is so appealing, you can find some of her work here-Kevin also presents Healing with Conscious Communication and The Enneagram Masterclass and co-presents with Brandon The Journey’s most powerful course, Freedom from the Ego retreat. Kevin’s main focus is bringing the power of this paradigm shifting and transformative work to individuals who recognise that they are not living to their highest and deepest potential. He is continually developing new work and is currently writing a book on freedom from depression. These books range from translated stories from other countries to adventues set in far-flung places. Covering many genres some are great for engaging reluctant readers while others are perfect to entertain those reading above their age.

Sanna used a collage of migration stories from different people she interviewed at a refugee center in Italy to create The Journey, inspired by the story of two girls she met there. Using simple language, and folk art style illustrations, Sanna has written a book that really captured what it is like to be a refugee, to be fleeing friend, family and home for your life with no idea how it will all end. Kids who may have heard about the ongoing problems in Syria this year may greatly benefit from this book, not because it will help them understand the politics of what is happening, but because, on a more personal level, it will help them understand what being a refugee means. This beautiful book follows Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus as they flee into Egypt as refugees. The gorgeous drawings and Booth's sparse, poetic words make this a Christmas book to treasure. Since asylum can be a confusing issue for children (and even adults), here are some books that explore what it really means to flee your home and have to start your life over. This beautifully illustrated picture book introduces a powerful and moving perspective on migration for readers of all ages. Told through the eyes of a young girl, the story explores the unimaginable decisions faced by a mother and her two children as they are forced to flee their home and everyone they know to escape the turmoil of war.
