About this deal

We assess how simple each rice cooker is to set up for the first time, how helpful the instructions are for assembling it, and the advice it gives on capacities and water-to-rice ratios. Advice on cooking times is also a plus.

We really like VonShef products so the VonShef Slow Cooker would be a good choice for us, however the Swan Slow Cooker also looks great. What might sway the outcome for us though is the reliability and years of manufacturing knowledge that comes with buying the Morphy Richards Slow Cooker. The slow cooker is pretty easy to clean. What I would say is don’t leave it too long before you wash it out though as it will be harder work. But with a good scrub the pot and lid come up nice and clean, ready for the next use. Results The Breville produces one or two hearty meals, so it's not good for batch cooking, but on the plus side it doesn’t take up very much space at all: perfect for a student, who can use it to elevate a sausage and baked bean casserole, or perhaps for a single person to keep in a pied-a-terre flat. This autumn, we went in search of the very best slow cookers, cooking batches of everything from chilli to Irish stew (filling the freezer in the process). We considered each slow cooker in terms of its size, heat distribution, versatility and how easy it was to use and clean – and, of course, the deliciousness of the results.

Having a slow cooker is a great addition to the kitchen. It’s a fantastic way to prepare healthy and hearty meals that can be ready straight after work. This is incredibly helpful with a busy job and family life to juggle. I have the Vonshef slow cooker in a 6.5l capacity. I get asked a lot whether I would recommend it, so here are my thoughts. Size and aesthetics With the usual three standard settings – high, low and medium – and a capacity which produces around three or four surprisingly generous portions, this slow cooker does what it says on the proverbial tin.

Slow Cooker reviews over… which is the winner?

Slow cooking is also a great way to rustle up mouth-watering meat dishes, as unlike cooking on the hob at a high heat, the slow cooker’s low heat helps to keep meat soft and tender. No under or over cooking, or impairing the taste of ingredients. The keep-warm setting will impact the quality of your rice Although the drop in quality was slight with the best models we tested, we found that after being left for an hour on the keep-warm setting at least a slight drop in the quality of the rice was inevitable. The rice will likely be drier and need some fluffing before you serve it. If you are looking to lose weight or keep the weight off then these three slow cooker diet recipe books could be very useful: An energy-efficient slow cooker can save a significant amount of energy compared to traditional cooking methods. Typically, it uses only a fraction of the electricity that conventional ovens or stovetops consume. This makes it an environmentally friendly and energy-saving choice for cooking. Can I leave an energy-efficient slow cooker unattended for long periods?

Strong stainless steel construction with removable, ceramic inner pot and dishwasher safe glass lid That depends on which rice cooker you're using. All should at least be able to cook white, basmati and brown/wholegrain rice; however, some can also cook other types, such as risotto or sushi rice. Generous 6.5 litre capacity with a maximum working capacity of 4.5 litres – perfect for large families, entertaining or batch cooking. When using a rice cooker, take care to avoid steam vents and avoid touching any part of the cooking pot that might be exposed. It’s not suitable to use on the hob, and the ceramic cooking pot shouldn’t be placed on any surface affected by heat. A trivet or an insulated pad is recommended. When selecting meat, look for the leanest cuts. Trim any visible fat from the meat because the slow cooking process will result in too much liquid in the form of fat. This round slow cooker features three heat settings (low, high, and keep-warm) and is oven-safe for browning. Not only does it excel at casseroles, curries, chilli, soups, and desserts, but it’s also energy-conscious. Cook delicious one-pot meals whilst you’re at work or sleeping. The VonShef 6.5L Slow Cooker goes hand in hand with the fast-paced modern lifestyle – allowing your dishes to be cooked low and slow without needing any supervision. The importance of energy efficiency in a slow cooker lies in its ability to save costs, reduce environmental impact, and enhance cooking performance.
