Granny Bird is Big Bird's paternal grandmother, who first appeared in Episode 0030. She is almost identical in appearance to her grandson except for her clothes, the gray feathers in her forehead, faded eyelids, and eyeglasses. In Episode 3006, it is revealed that Granny Bird is Big Bird's grandmother on his father's side. We all fell in love with Noi in The Storm Whale and The Storm Whale in Winter and now we can fall in love with Noi's Grandma Bird. Noi also appears in ‘ The Storm Whale’ books. Read these together and try some of our teaching ideas. Granny was going to have a cameo in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but was later dropped for unknown reasons.

Design a game in which a boat travels over the sea in a storm. What obstacles might it have to avoid? The super-stylish, super-cool, super-fun Grandma Z takes her grandson Albert on a birthday trip to remember... on her motorbike, obviously!

I cannot write a list about grandmas in books and not include The Summer Book, which features one of my all-time, absolute favourite Grandmas ever. I know it's not a children's book, but Jansson is one of our most beloved children's authors so... The story of a girl, a whale and a friendship that will echo down the generations, from best-selling, award-winning picture book creator, Benji Davies, author of The Storm Whale Another cheat, but how could I not sneak a Grandpa in at the end of the list? This book has a lot in common with The Summer Book in that it tells the story of a wonderful relationship between a young girl and her grandfather. It’s where the seeds of a child’s love for books and reading are planted’: Katrina Charman on the magic of bedtime stories The Nothing to See Here Hotel is nothing short of hilarious, with both Stevens bringing the LOLS, big time. And while not the focal character, Granny Regurgita pretty much stole the show for me.

A simple story with gorgeous illustrations by Benji Davies. Each one of us will have memories of our grandparents and how our summer holidays were wonderful. This story will always remind me of my grandma and those memories will forever be etched in my heart, just like Noi. This is a delightful adventure story with plenty of drama, danger and excitement. Noi is having very little fun with his Grandma and it is this that sees him head off to explore his surroundings whereby he finds a cave. Whilst in his cave a storm brews and a surprise visitor drops from the sky in need of help. Through the nursing of this bird and several others that Noi and his Grandma rescue, the two bond.
