Want to save more time

I thought I wouldn’t be involved to be honest and as a writer you have to know when to let go of your characters to another medium. But as it turned out, the production company Move on Up have been so inclusive and invited me up to see the sets on the Isle of Lewis. I’m very happy with all the casting, especially Cherry, she is totally natural; she’s even got Katie Morag’s fleeting facial expressions which you can’t dictate to a child actor. We had long discussions about how to portray a totally free-range child, who had the run of the island and was often alone, in a way that would not inspire a legion of small viewers to emulate her. In the end I think we found a balance, compromising on some of the freedoms, but guarding others. Hepburn, Stuart (25 April 2013). "The Search for Katie Morag is Over". The Creative Space . Retrieved 13 July 2014. Begin by jumping onto a ferry at Oban, at Mallaig, at Tarbert, Uig or at Ullapool , even up at Scrabster for the Nothern Islands, Or you could simply stay on the Highland Mainland and head up to places like Durness, Arisaig, Ardnamurchan Peninsula; the list is very long indeed. This book is about a little girl called Katie Morag who lives on the Isle of Struay with her mum who’s the postmistress and her dad who owns the general store. This is one of many adventures of Katie Morag’s. This particular story is about Grannie Mainland coming to the island to visit Katie Morag. Grannie Island and Grannie Mainland have a lot of differences and therefore Katie tries to bring them together. Grannie Mainland is from the city and always looks good because she likes to dress up whereas Grannie Island works on the farm and dresses in her overall and wellies. There is an annual Show Day happening on the island and Grannie Island’s sheep Alecina always wins the Best Ewe and Fleece Trophy. When Katie Morag went to Grannie Island’s Alecina was all muddy and dirty. There wasn’t a lot of time before the Show. Katie Morag has an idea, she suggested that they use Grannie Mainland’s beauty aids to clean up Alecina and get her ready for the Show. Alecina won the prize again thanks to Grannie Mainland’s beauty aids. There was a lovely celebration but only Grannie Island and Katie Morag knew the true secret. Grannie Island never was horrible to Grannie Mainland for her fancy ways again. This book is brilliant to read to children as it contains humour which both adults and children will enjoy(such as Katie and Grandma Island using Grandma Mainland's hair tint and rollers on the sheep!) It also has beautiful large illustrations with a lot going on to discuss. In England a short National Curriculum Key Stage 1 Geography unit for six- and seven-year-olds, called "An island home", has been linked to the series and in particular the book Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers. [10] The book Katie Morag and the New Pier has also been used as a peg to discuss how communities can gain and lose from change. [11] The most recent book in the series, Katie Morag and the Dancing Class, was a nominee for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2008, [12] which is awarded for an outstanding work of illustration in children's literature. If you would like to experience the world in which Katie Morag lives there are many many adventures to be had in any of the Scottish Hebridean Islands, Generations of readers had cherished each syllable and every tiny detail of her illustrations for over thirty years. We had to make the programmes authentic to the books - funny, touching, beautiful and wise, and make them resonate, for Mairi, for the BBC and for Katie Morag fans everywhere. In November 2012 it was announced at last that the BBC CBeebies channel had commissioned twenty-six 14-minute live-action dramas, from Coutts’s Cromarty-based production company Move On Up. In The Times, Helen Rumbelow suggested viewers, "Draw the curtains, pour a whisky and enjoy one of the most realistic child performances of the decade, the butchest grandma on screen, and the best Hebridean landscape in the world. It's as close as you can get to not watching TV without having to give up TV." [17] Awards [ edit ]Stephen Fraser, Katie Morag gets politically correct, Scotland on Sunday, 18 July 1999.
