I feel the experience of a big screen movie needs to be widescreen. It provides more spectacle and depth. The human eye is designed to see peripherals and not just focus on a narrow square in front of you. As for films being only about people… I beg to disagree. Many decently made films actually use the landscape as a character. It is just lazy film-making to ignore the edges of the world.
