Apatosaurus toy brings to life one of the largest terrestrial animals to have ever existed, measuring at least 70 feet in length and weighing about 20 tons. Apatosaurus had a small head and a small brain. In its mouth were peg-shaped teeth with sharp, chiselled tips for eating vegetation.

However, because the specimen in the American Museum of Natural History was titled Brontosaurus, this was the name that came into common usage. Books, films and TV programmes all referred to the dinosaur with its original, incorrect, name. However, further investigations into its body structure have shown that Apatosaurus had many adaptations that allowed it to live a terrestrial (land-based) lifestyle. Subsequent studies found that Brontosaurus was actually the same genus. Because Apatosaurus was named first, scientific convention calls for Brontosaurus to be renamed Apatosaurus. DURABLE?: Made of durable materials with integrated and seamless design, it's a toy companies children's whole childhood. There’s nothing to complain about with the legs, although they appear a bit too large, but the feet are one of the toys most offensive features. They’re enormous and disproportionate, reminiscent of the old Carnegie and Playskool sauropod toys. They also have an incorrect number of digits, meaning that Mattel is applying more work than is necessary on some of these toys. The forelimbs all have five distinct and clawed digits. Apatosaurus should only have one visible digit apparent on the forelimbs, with the rest encased in a fleshy mitt. Only three clawed digits should be apparent on the hindlimbs.PERFECT GIFT?: The rage Dinosaur figurine animal toys are great for Birthday gift, Christmas celebration games, can be used as cake topper, school rewards, party supplies and the coolest decoration, no doubt about it! However, other theories suggest that this is unlikely as the tail would probably have been damaged in the process. Instead, it was probably used for balance. Apatosaurus Life Span

This Apatosaurus is probably one of the worst sculpts of a seen-on-screen-species thus far. Its absolutely as bad as the laughable Spinosaurus and I will bet my money made by the same artist. While I’m definitely interested in this figure and excited to get one (and try to figure out where to put it)… why is it Legacy Collection? Apatosaurus didn’t appear in the first three films, only in JW and JWFK. So that doesn’t really make any sense. It’s not a Legacy dinosaur, so it’s just randomly a Target exclusive for no reason at all. First appearing in the Late Triassic Epoch, sauropods were widespread by the late Jurassic Epcoh (150 million years ago). However, by the late Cretaceous, most of these large dinosaurs had disappeared and had been replaced by other species. Examples of the poor sculpts are: Spinosaurus, Parasaurolophus and Pachycephalosaurus which unlike the above listed figures, do not actually match their on-screen counterparts and have a lot of the stylistic stamps of the artist responsible for designing many of the non-cannon dinosaurs.

You can find out more about the Jurassic Period (and all the other periods) here: Dinosaur Periods Scientists don’t really know what the claws were used for. One idea is that the front claws may have been used to grab onto trees while the animal was rearing up on its hind legs. Apatosaurus was between 21 and 23 meters (69 to 75ft) from nose to tail. It stood around 4.6 metres (15 ft.) tall at the shoulders. What we do know is that Apatosaurus hatched from eggs, and that these eggs were at least a 12 inches (30 cm) wide. Apatosaurus egg remains have been discovered positioned in lines, suggesting that they were laid while the female Apatosaurus was walking along.

Apatosaurus Size Apatosaurus Facts For Kids: Size Chart As a commercial artist myself, its very obvious to me that there are levels of quality with Mattel’s figures. Some are excellent and others are actually pretty poor. This could be that there are two different artists at work, OR (what I think is more likely) is that some figures have been made with digital reference and others have been sculpted by eye. Like cows today, Apatosaurus would likely have used microbes in the gut to aid digestion. This would have resulted in the production of methane, a greenhouse gas, just like commercial cattle do in the modern world.
