About this deal

The first season's bonus episode revealed Dream's ex-wife Calliope bore him a son called Orpheus, who had supposedly died. Set photos have shown an actor, who appears to be The Morning Show's Ruairi O'Connor, wearing a white outfit akin to Orpheus' from the comics and carrying a lyre - his symbol in mythology.

Morpheus is going to Hell looking for Nada, since he found her there in his previous trip to the Hellish realm while he was looking for his mask to gather all his lost power during his imprisonment by magic. This volume has an epic beginning with a reunión of the members of the Endless, well all of them except the “prodigal Destruction” who went awol lefting behind his responsibilities. According to a report from What's on Netflix, the streamer will be casting four new characters from The Sandman comics for Season 2. The outlet revealed these will include three more members of the seven Endless - Delirium, Destruction, and Destiny - along with Barbie's transgender woman best friend Wanda. I was actually surprised just how well the stories translated to this medium (the original stories are highly visual adventures). The original comic run of The Sandman ran across 10 volumes, two of which were adapted across Season 1 - Preludes and Nocturnes and The Doll's House. As such, most viewers are expecting Season 2 to dive into the third and fourth volumes of Neil Gaiman tales, those being Dream Country (issues 17 to 20) and Season of Mists (issues 21 to 28).

Adapting the medium of comics to radio plays/podcasts is a surprisingly good fit, and I hope there are more of these in the future. Unlike the constraints of film, the pure imagination of visual comics can be explored without limit and oh so faithfully by acting out these amazing stories. Dirk Maggs is an experienced director who knows what he's doing, and the all-star acting cast is legendary. The 10 episodes of Season One covered just 16 issues of Sandman's original 75-issue run. And the next installment of the Sandman graphic novel series, titled Season of Mists , is largely considered Neil Gaiman's finest work on The Sandman. (How's that for a tease!?) On my last day of tutoring, as the school year came to an end, I gave him a copy of Season of Mists, the fourth Sandman collected edition. Okay, when I first read I thought: this is obviously very good, but unlike most of the Gaiman universe, I liked the intimacy of volume 3 more than this huge, epic, operatic occasion where Morpheus decides what to do with Hell after Lucifer hands it over to him. But this time I see that this is what Gaiman does best, to alternate between a grand operatic canvas and the intimacy of the simple story. And it is a simple story, a kind of mythical allegory: With some poignancy Dream determines (influenced by his sisters!) that the best thing he could do to right a wrong he did to an ex-lover is to Go to Hell himself and release her (yep, he did that, not okay at all). Then, when he is in Hell, many gods from various worlds vye for ownership of Hell, and he creates ingenious solutions to both dilemmas (especially, that Nada, thus released, becomes transformed into a babe, without memory). What he did--ugh, this doe If we're able to do Game of You, we've got a lot of characters who aren't even human, who are talking animals, who I'm looking forward to meeting," Heinberg added. "Lenny Henry is so good as Martin Tenbones, and I can't wait for the audience to meet Wanda, Foxglove, and Hazel."

Incidentally, Daphne Alexander has previously worked on Casualty like her new co-star Charlotte Bate. According to Redanian Intelligence, her character’s name is Bromie, although this could well be a codename as the name doesn’t appear in the Sandman comics. She has had credits in a number of films over the years, most notably Sergeant (2023) and Milnore (2023). After its renewal for a second season in November 2022, The Sandman shot for three weeks in June 2023 before temporarily shutting down. Filming was held in England in Durdle Door and Poole, Dorset. Thanks to some sneaky pictures from the set, fans were able to get a glimpse of Tom Sturridge (Dream) and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death). We also saw some first images of new cast members, including characters played by Ruairi O’Connor and Indya Moore. To a certain extent, this would be the ideal place to start season 2 as it formally introduces two more members of the Endless: Destiny and Delirium. The former, referenced a handful of times throughout the season, sets “Seasons of Mist” in motion by hosting a family gathering. Delirium, meanwhile, does little else but make her presence known in a fascinating way. Nevertheless, it is important to establish all of the family before too long. Although, one more member of the Endless — “the prodigal” as Morpheus called him in episode 6 — will remain away for at least another season. In 2004 this collection received the award for the best scenario at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. In the twenty issues that preceded Season of Mists, Gaiman and his artistic collaborators introduced most of the members of the Endless. We had met Dream, of course, and Death. And Desire and Despair. And Destiny had popped up, but makes his presence felt more fully in the opening chapter of this arc. And, here, we are also introduced to Delirium, the unstable pixie of a sister, and a missing brother (Destruction, though his name is never spoken in this arc) who has cut off all ties with his family, for reasons to be explored in future Sandman stories. There are also a handful of interlude tales between “Seasons of Mists” and “A Game of You” that could appear in the second season, including “The Song of Orpheus” — the account of Morpheus’s son — and a tale of Lady Johanna Constantine (also Coleman) in the French Revolution. Although, as many of these stories offer little more than extra insights into the characters and some added texture, it is unclear if they will adapted at all. Then again, so much of what Sandman so great is that texture, even if it it does not fit into modern television conventions. All that said, “The Song of Orpheus” will likely appear in some fashion for reasons that will become clear in three or four years’ time. Meanwhile, Desire actor Mason Alexander Park with suspiciously coy with Digitial Spy about "the format that might take." So, while more episodic tales are coming to Netflix from The Sandman, it appears likely it may avoid the Season 2 label for unclear reasons:

Neil Gaiman offered an update on The Sandman Season 2 in April as he confirmed on Tumblr that the "scripts are written" and casting is underway for the first episode, even going as far as to say "sets [were] being designed:" From 2003 to 2005, Maggs produced new episodes of Douglas Adams' science fiction comedy series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, adapted from the novels based on the original radio series that Adams wrote. The books that Maggs adapted were written after the radio series ended its original run. Sometimes we can choose the path we follow. Sometimes our choices are made for us. And sometimes we have no choice at all. However, a lot of the narration continues to feel unneeded. There are moments where the narration will say something, only for the dialogue to repeat it (or vice versa). And that feels kind of clunky. The narration also occasionally breaks up the flow of the scenes, interjecting in moments that don't really need it. And while I understand the desire to describe so much of the comics' visuals, I remain unconvinced it's needed as often as it's used. Sound effects can do a lot of that work if given the chance. And, to be fair, Maggs and Gaiman do let the sound effects speak for themselves a bit more here. I just wish they'd go even further. But at the end of the day, the narration works far more than it doesn't. And hopefully, they'll continue to find the best balance between narration and sound effects in future installments.Season 1 of The Sandman had a lot going on, with two arcs—Dream's journey to regain his symbols of power, and his mission to contain the vortex/Rose—propelling the sprawling plot. The fantasy falls along the lines of anthologized shows like Doctor Who, where one main protagonist and his companions/helpers go from place to place, having mini-adventures that feed into the fight against a main antagonist. Season 1's overall baddie was The Corinthian, but the story's done with him by the finale, as well as with the Burgess family and Rose & Co. Although the first two issues in Dream Country have already been adapted in Season 1's bonus episode ("Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope"), meaning they ought to be skipped, perhaps allowing a dip into the fifth volume, A Game of You. However, according to Redanian Intelligence, The Sandman is expected to return with a shorter eight-episode Season 2 - a count in line with other Netflix shows. Again, like Lucienne, we can expect Mervyn to pop up every now and again. A large portion of the Season of Mists storyline takes place in Dream’s palace, where he gets lots of visitors, so we’ll probably see Lucienne and Merv getting very stressed out!

However, as the actors' strike began just weeks later on July 14, much of the filming is still to be completed once the strike ends. Gaiman was clear on Tumblr that any potential delay "depends on how long the strike goes:" I'm so pleased to be listening to the second act of Neil Gaiman's epic Sandman series, expertly reimagined as audio drama. In addition, we can expect Despair’s appearance to change slightly in the new season. Neil Gaiman previously hinted that the team may have missed the mark with her appearance, which included a tatty brown shirt and crocs. “Mostly, what I hope is that the next time you see Despair on the screen you won’t think of her as frumpy, depressed and unloved,” he wrote on Tumblr. “She isn’t in the comics, and I think we missed what we were aiming for in Sandman season 1.”Calliope was introduced into The Sandman in episode 11, where she was abused by Erasmus Fry and later Richard Madoc, who used her powers as a Muse to create great stories. Oh, honestly, I shivered throughout the re-read. This is SUCH an important volume for the rest of the tale. And I really can't top my original review, either. Unlike many comic book adaptations, Netflix fantasy series The Sandman remained faithful to its source material, executive producer Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel series of the same name. From episodes like “The Sound of Her Wings” — which adapts the stories featured in issues #8 and #13 of the comic book series — it appears the program will adhere to the book in an unprecedented way, and so it’s relatively easy to assume certain things about the next season; for one, it will likely adapt the next two major stories. As always, solidarity with writers striking and we hope they get the outcome they deserve. Hopefully, the situation is resolved in time for Gaiman and the writing team to return to work on Sandman. Production on new episodes of The Sandman has been split into two segments. The first begins in June 2023 and concludes in October 2023. And then shooting will continue from January 2024 to April 2024.
