About this deal

Fernet Branca is by far the most popular representative of the Fernet category. It tastes very bitter and herbal, with a strong taste of mint and anise. But how can you replace Fernet Branca if you don't have it at home?

Although all of these ideas will be part of my upcoming summer festivities, that last one got to me. I figured we could do one better by swapping out the root beer for Irish stout. Rathbun, A. J. (12 September 2007). Good Spirits: Recipes, Revelations, Refreshments, and Romance, Shaken and Served with a Twist. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. ISBN 978-1-55832-336-0. Fratelli Branca Distillerie, thanks to the great and sharp intuition that has always distinguished it, decides to research and develop a drink suitable for every season, creating Brancamenta, a product that surprises its consumers and aficionados with its “thrill of intense pleasure ” at every sip. As mentioned, ginger beer is a go-to chaser for shots of Fernet Branca. I wasn’t sure how well the mint-heavy Branca Menta would work with ginger, but I wanted to try it out. I included aged rum and a healthy helping of Angostura as well. Perhaps its most important watershed moment in the bartending community, however, began in San Francisco, where, today, 70% of its consumption in the US goes down. Someone who has a good knowledge of its industry appeal there is Antoinette Cattani who was professionally slinging Fernet-Branca at bartenders during the late nineties. Having moved from LA to San Francisco to take on the brand, she took what was already a bit of a bartender’s secret and magnified it.Branca Menta is a medium brown color and opaque. It's intensely minty, with not only mint, but the cooling effect of menthol as well. It's a step sweeter than Fernet Branca, which masks the firm bitterness, pushing it to the finish. The company, a pioneer in the creation of a bitter liqueur made from herbs and roots from all over the world, has always based its work on innovation, whilst respecting traditions and quality. Branca Menta is based on the same bitter herbal recipe of Fernet Branca, but it brings something else to the table: an icy blast of peppermint.

Its surprising formula, composed of herbs and spices, is enriched with the Piedmontese peppermint essential oil, the most valuable in the world. Brancamenta was born in the ’60s, a period characterized by great changes, by an economic boom, by a new way of life – more individualistic and less conformist – and, consequently, by great desires for novelties, even in taste and flavours. When taking a sip of Branca Menta, it tastes like a variation of the classic Fernet Branca mixed with peppermint liqueur. Yet, it is much more refined and balanced compared to what you get when mixing the original Fernet Branca with mint flavors.Over time, Branca positioned itself as an integral part of Argentine culture. In one now-classic advertising campaign, a man in traditional tango attire dances with a human-sized Fernet bottle. “ Argentina es Tango. Fernet es Branca,” the poster claims, suggesting, perhaps, that if Argentina is tango, then Branca is the Fernet that Argentines would invite to the dance. When Argentines talk about Fernet, they are almost exclusively referring to Branca. To get a better overview, read the details of the best alternatives to Fernet Branca below. Each substitute has a short description and taste review to find the perfect replacement for your needs. Contrary to Fernet, Menta has a more syrupy feel. It coats the mouth with a bittersweet glaze, though I’d say the mint helps to prevent it from feeling too incredibly heavy. Finish In 2014, amidst inflation, such was its importance in Argentina that Fernet-Branca was even added to the nation’s precios cuidados price-freeze program. Other items on the list included bread, milk, and beef. THE CHANGING FACE OF FERNET
