About this deal

In summary, R6C is well suited for enterprise customers to develop mini machine vision systems with multiple Ethernet ports and for embedded system hobbyists to explore and implement prototype designs. Foresee A3A551" HS400 Enhanced strobe eMMC 5.1 card as /dev/mmcblk2: date 07/2022, manfid/oemid: 0x0000d6/0x0103, hw/fw rev: 0x0/0x1200000000000000 graphics acceleration and video hardware decoding are implemented, but they may not work on all programs. It was nice to have VP9 hardware video decoding in YouTube and WebGL demos working smoothly on Chromium. I did not have issues with 2.5GbE networking and the internal eMMC flash is fast making the system fast to boot and responsive. The metal enclosure is good enough to cool the fanless system under all loads I tested. Some of the issues include Chromium reporting an unusually low score with Speedometer 2.0, and the power consumption looks higher than on other systems.

Use a USB A-to-A cable, connect NanoPi-R6C to a PC as follows. Note: please pay attention to the USB port the USB cable is connected to in the screenshot.Installing needed tools: apt -f -qq -y install sysstat curl lshw mbw p7zip, tinymembench, ramlat, mhz, cpuminer. Done. It plays well with no dropped frames, but how do we know it’s using hardware video decoding? The first clue is the power consumption: around 5.4W, while my power meter would typically fluctuate between 8 and 10W+ with software video decoding on other RK3588 platforms. The bottom side of FriendlyElec’s NanoPi R6S SBC comes with a FORESEE eMMC flash (right side) and an STM32G030F6P6 microcontroller to handle the power circuitry, the IR receiver, and the RTC. The NanoPi R6C is only available with 8GB RAM LPDDR4X 2133MHz. The device comes equipped with a MicroSD card, a M.2 NVMe SSD slot and an optional 32GB eMMC flash storage (HS400). The NanoPi R6S has two USB ports, and supports USB type-C power delivery. It is an ideal portable drive for saving images and videos. R6C is a compact board of 90 x 62 cm with rich hardware resources. It has a 30-pin GPIO header including general I/O, 12C, 12S, PWM and SPI pins. It has an HDMI output port which can play video steams such as 8K@60fps H.265/VP9, 8K@30fps H264 etc. In addition, R6C has a Type C port that supports USB to Serial conversion, which allows developers to conveniently do development and debug issues. The following settings are highly recommended to complete before connecting NanoPi-R6S to the Internet。

Installing needed tools: apt -f -qq -y install lm-sensors sysstat curl lshw stress-ng smartmontools mmc-utils p7zip, tinymembench, ramlat, mhz, cpuminer. Done. Power off – 0.9 Watt (That’s rather high and remains at this value even if I disconnect everything from the NanoPi R6S barring the power cable. If I do remove the USB power cable, the power meter shows 0.4W so it looks like the NanoPi R6S draws 0.5W while it is powered off) Expansion – 30-pin 2.54mm header connector up to 1x SPI, 3x UARTs, 3x I2Cs, 2x SPDIFs, 1x I2Ss, 3x PWMs, 1x CAN, 20x GPIOs Enter the "Services" -> "Terminal", enter the "poweroff" command and hit enter, wait until the led light is off, and then unplug the power supply.

For more information about the RK3588 SOC and mainline Linux support, please see this document from Collabora. The post NanoPi R6C review – Ubuntu 22.04, NVMe SSD, USB debug appeared first on CNX Software - Embedded Systems News. The NanoPi R6C ships with FriendlyWrt (OpenWrt), but since I feel this specific model is better suited as a mini PC that happens to have router features, I flashed the latest Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy Desktop image from the Wiki (rk3588-eflasher-ubuntu-jammy-desktop-5.10-arm64-20230317.img). dmc: dmc_ondemand / 528 MHz (rknpu_ondemand dmc_ondemand userspace powersave performance simple_ondemand / 528 1068 1560 2112)I also installed rubber pads to cover the screw holes, but those are not really useful since the R6C already comes with two long rubber pads on two sides.

Try to replace the power adapter and cable. It is recommended to use a power supply with specifications above 5V/2A; I eventually connected a serial debug board to my NanoPi R6S and could see some partition and file system errors when booting the problematic images. I told FriendlyElec the FriendlyElec worked fine on my two samples, but looking at the logs and USB utility issue, they still suspected an eMMC flash issue and sent me another unit that was supposed to be preloaded with Ubuntu 22.04, but eventually came with the same FriendlyWrt image. This single-board computer is designed to work well in industrial settings. Single-board computers made by FriendlyElec are known for their high quality and low price. Designed to withstand harsh environments, the NanoPi R6C is durable and robust. Additionally, it offers a wide range of features and capabilities that make it suitable for a wide range of applications. As an example, it can serve as a media player, NAS, mini router, and so forth. The NanoPi R6S has rich hardware resources with a compact size of 90 x 62 mm. FriendlyElec has released a carefully-designed custom CNC housing for it. It has one HDMI port. It works with Android, Debian Desktop and Ubuntu etc and works with headless systems as well. It supports decoding 8K60 H.265/VP9 formatted videos.

llvmpipe should mean software renderer. So I set the graphics to full screen and 1920×1080 resolution, and it was indeed unplayable at probably 1 or 2 fps confirming the GPU is not involved here. SuperTuxKart is supposed to work on OpenGL ES hardware, but I don’t know how to fix this. If you connect an HDMI display you’ll see the progress on your TV/monitor, but I did not have mine with me, so instead, I just looked at the LEDs on the front panel. Once all Green LEDs are on the firmware update is complete. fdab0000.npu: rknpu_ondemand / 1000 MHz (rknpu_ondemand dmc_ondemand userspace powersave performance simple_ondemand) The FriendlyElec Wiki has documentation to boot up the NanoPi R6C from eMMC or from the MicroSD card. The company also provides instructions to install Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 11, Android TV and their own FriendlyWrt which is based on OpenWrt.
