About this deal

Secondly, every one of them is dense and complex, in characterisation, theme and development so, for me, it was just impossible to race through them quickly. With a sharp eye for rendering inner life, Joanna Pearson has a knack for creating both compassion and a looming sense of threat. In his first ever collection of short stories, this master of crime delivers a gripping, edge-of-your seat read that you won’t be able to put down. Before my review I've listed the twelve short stories in the book and given them a rating between 1-5. The Trail of Discovery means the author leads the reader through a consistent set of rules and parameters for the unfolding of events.

I will, however, address some themes and ideas that came to me as I listened to this collection, narrated by a number of well-established audiobook readers. Jo Nesbø već nam je pokazao i dokazao kako se izvrsno snalazi i u kriminalističkim serijalima i u samostalnim trilerima, i u re-tellingu Shakespearea, pa čak i u romanima za djecu. With stories that vary in length, it is even more important to pay attention, as there are times when a piece is over before it really begins, meaning the reader will miss what is being presented. In Trash we have an angry and jealous refuse disposal officer who really cleans up after himself and The Confession has a particularly yummy Twist! A glamorous birthday dinner in the Hollywood Hills ends with the famous host dead and every guest under suspicion in this dark, cinematic suspense debut reminiscent of an Agatha Christie page-turner crossed with David Lynch's Mulholland Drive.Nesbo's boozy and brooding detective Harry Hole doesn’t appear, but frankly, he isn’t required, and a bit of rest and recovery probably won't do him any harm. The reader who is familiar with Jo Nesbø will likely enjoy the collection, even if it might leave them somewhat mentally exhausted by the final page flip. Straight out of the departure gate, ‘London’ has Shaun and Maria meeting on a plane only for a previously arranged contract with a suicide agency - a very Nesboian notion - to throw a spanner at their burgeoning love. With Nesbø's characteristic gift for outstanding atmosphere and gut-wrenching revelations, The Jealousy Man confirms that he is at the peak of his abilities.

However, I found many of the stories repetitive because they are mostly about men being obsessed with women. The author was just in Tucson last weekend doing a reading and I fully meant to go and then somehow got distracted and missed it! They weren't as twisty or suspenseful as I liked but it's hard to maintain that level of drama when a story is short; some were predictable but still worth a read. I have to admit that I saw those two names and immediately bought the book, I should have slowed down and looked more closely. Basura resultó interesante, aunque principalmente por el tono y la voz narrativa, la forma en que el mismo protagonista no sabía bien lo que sucedió y el cómo todo se fue develando, admito que esperé un poco más del final, pero estuvo bien.Nesbø works include the Harry Hole series, Headhunters, The Son, Blood on Snow, Midnight Sun, Macbeth, as well as several children’s books. Each story features a crime, motive is either jealousy or power, can you solve the crimes before the end? Famed for his deft characterization, hair-raising suspense and shocking twists, Nesbø’s dexterity with the dark corners of the human heart is on full display in these inventive and enthralling stories. Far away, in another country, a taxi driver finds his wife's earring in a car belonging to his boss and sets out to discover how it ended up there. Nicholas Guy Smith read The Jealousy Man, and Black Knight, which kept me enthralled to the final minute.

Love this author and his writing style - I didn’t know if I’d like his short pieces as well, but they were intense, suspenseful, weird, and creepy - and sometimes deeply disturbing - so, yes, they were like Nesbo’s novels. On the other hand, you had done your crying turned away from me, clearly showing that this wasn’t something you wanted to share with your fellow passengers.
