About this deal

And speaking of guilt, I’m getting tired of this guilt-trip he’s been on in the beginning of this new series. The author's diversion to Paris as a setting was distracting, especially with French comments that added little to the characters or the storyline. I’m really looking forward to seeing what comes in book three, and hoping that this series will continue on as Gregory is a character who has a lot to give. I thought I knew what had happened and why as that is where the story was leading you to but nope, I was completely wrong. At the end of gregory’s lecture, they are summoned by the Brigade Criminelle, the French equivalent of a Major Investigation Team, to attend the main Police Headquarters where they are asked to consult on the case of a vicious attack.

This is not intended to be a full statement of all your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. Book 1 was a fantastic book, but Book 2 was okay, but lacked a few things, the character development and depth of storyline that the first book had. What I love about this series is that it takes us beyond the normal everyday process of a police investigation and allows us more of a glimpse into the minds of both the victim and the perpetrator.Overall, I don't regret reading this second installment but felt the author missed an opportunity by not including more substance and engaging storyline depth to this book. Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst London’s vibrant Theatreland.

There is quite a lot of French woven into the narrative, which has been included presumably to give the story a fulsome flavour of France and lend authenticity to location. His head and his heart are often in conflict and he really struggles with the split nature of his emotional personality.Gregory is paired with attractive investigating officer DCI Hope and tensions arise―especially when an old foe resurfaces. There is a thread which feeds through the story that kept me completely intrigued, wondering how it tied in with what was happening.

I was struggling to see how some parts of the story fit and couldn't for the life of me work out where the story was heading. I have long been a fan of another series by this author concerning DCI Ryan and his team of police detectives, set in the north of England. LJ Ross is an international bestselling author, best known for creating atmospheric mystery and thriller novels, including the DCI Ryan series of Northumbrian murder mysteries which have sold over four million copies worldwide. In his personal life, however, he is a tormented soul and he can often find himself distracted by issues from his childhood that can overwhelm him – invariably in his dreams. Too many French named characters to remember and I got to a stage were I couldn't remember who was who (could be down to my age though). Each character we meet has their own demons to battle, their own secrets that they are reluctant to share, each one of them drip fed to readers building tension and expectation perfectly.
