It doesn't have to be put up full and if it is on low the thermostat kicks in once the temperature drops. They do make a sort of pleasant crackling sound of heating oil when turned on from cold if used on the highest setting (which is disconcerting at first if you aren't used to oil-filled heaters but is perfectly normal! More expensive heaters or fixed wall mounted radiators often claim to be more efficient based on the fact they have more sophisticated thermostats and/or timers, so can avoid wasting energy by overheating the room. It has three variable heat settings and an adjustable room thermostat to set and maintain the desired temperature, as well as an anti-frost function and an overheat safety protection feature. We've used it a fair bit (our conservatory is also our dining room) for over a year, with no ill effects, and it still works great.

Thoroughly recommend this machine - it's silent in operation and pretty compact BUT (there's always a 'but') why is there no indication that this machine is painted in what is best described as 'Battleship' grey and not white?
