About this deal

Wanting to test the genetic sample for signs of the Net Terminal Gene, Kyrii and Cibo make their way through an unofficial megastructure. There is, in a way, a literary quality to Blame - if dog-eared school editions of books like Kidnapped and Wuthering Heights ask you to imagine the untamed wilds behind the pages (I once read a graphic novel of the former which reduced the entire book to less than fifty pages as so much of it is a Highlands travelogue to be told in scenic landsacpes), then the pages of Blame! Meanwhile, some of the deepest secrets of the Sidonia also come to the fore as revealed by the resident talking bear, err.

Hiding away from and being chased by creatures that are oddly organic, but with mechanical components. Blame is a unique electric fantasy of brooding, gothic imagination suffusing deep shadows with forbidding, compelling awe for an evocative odyssey into a world of dark grandeur. The earlier story Biomega brings us back partway along this process to Nihei Squash, a cordial of his monstrous figures and heavy-impact action diluted by a straightforward save-the-world plot. Ultimately, Cibo and Sanakan both die in a final confrontation with the Safeguard, but Killy survives and preserves the sphere. Nihei nos lleva a un futuro distópico extraño, una enorme ciudad subterránea que parece abarcarlo todo, miles de niveles y como cielo una pequeña rendija que deja ver la luz del sol. The City is truly unlike anything else seen in manga, and you can tell how it's from the pen of an uncompromised Nihei when you compare these pages to the shots in the trailer for the upcoming Blame!

And it isn't just an empty setting: it is a dynamic place reshaped and inhabited by creatures and machines and people just as strange and indifferent, where humanity is an ever-present concept but is manifested as something distant, abstract, unreliable. Esta edición concreta es muy buena, mucho mayor tamaño que los manga normales, de momento me ha dejado muy buena impresión.

Robert's life is one regularly on the move, but be it up hill or down dale giant robots and cute girls are a constant comfort - limited only by how many manga you can stuff into a bursting rucksack.

Although I found a lot of the action hugely confusing, overall it had a great sense of place and surrounding - desolate, endless, huge vast caverns and canyons of conduits and metal. Problem is, humans are hidden, on the brink of extinction, hunted by machines, androids, for reasons unknown.

It seemed to be issue after issue of showing the main character Kyrii climbing up inside some kind of gigantic metallic structure, meeting various of its inhabitants on each new levels and being chased and fired at by equally unrecognizable bad guys. When I was first conceiving this review, I was expecting to say negative things about the storytelling in the series.
