About this deal

I would have been disappointed had there not been a large ‘people telling stories’ motif built into at least one of the arcs.

The Absolute Sandman, Volume Three reprints issues 40-56 of The Sandman and The Sandman Special 1 and features remastered coloring prepared especially for this edition on issues 40-49 and the Special. It’s a cliché to have characters swapping stories at a bar in the middle of nowhere, but it fits the themes that underpin the saga. I won’t pretend to dwell on gender in the whole of the run – there are many more qualified people doing that already – but I will say that I was quite surprised to hear that Neil Gaiman himself breaks down his Sandman stories into “boy” and “girl” stories. The two main plot threads in this one are the tale of Orpheus, who was fathered by Dream, and of a number of travelers, stranded at the World's End Inn, telling stories to pass the time away.Ako se zaigras, pitat ce te bliski ljudi nesto u stilu, trebam li se zabrinuti za tvoje plave ruke, a ti ces pokusati odmahnuti glavom sve dok ne skuzis da ni vrat nije bas u top formici. I won’t go so far as to say that the story has new relevance in the Obama era, but it is charming for its straight-fowardness. In the tavern arc, each story is drawn in a very different style, some of them I loved, they could almost tell the story with no words, some were more normal comics style, some were creepy, but they fitted the stories being told.

Barring the Worlds’ End arc, which is arguably an anthology series framed within a serial, this collection has few standalone stories. The miscellany section included this time did have some high points, despite the focus on the comics; I rather enjoyed the small collection of Little Endless sketches and the resulting statuettes, and the other merchandise was quite a revelation as well. When Coraline explores her new home, she steps through a door and into another house just like her own - except that it's different. Two lengthy and fantastic arcs, the highlight being the nine part epic, wherein Delirium comes into her own, and almost supersedes Death as my favourite character.

The only part I really enjoyed out of the whole situation was Despair's relationship with the missing brother. Again, this is one of the few places where Gaiman allows his world to overlap with the DCU – like Facade, The Golden Boy features a long forgotten hero of the DC pantheon. I had the feeling that Gaiman was enjoying the world he had created, but had more ideas in him than could be wrapped around the one character. The interactions of Dream and Delirium in the real world are also some of the funniest parts of the whole series [10/10].

There are scuffs and creases to the edges and corners of the covers and there are multiple stickers on the back cover and one on the spine. The great Norse myths are woven into the fabric of our storytelling - from Tolkien, Alan Garner and Rosemary Sutcliff to Game of Thrones and Marvel Comics. Al contrario del segundo tomo, la historia no se centra en Morfeo sino en sus personajes secundarios más relevantes junto a otros que aparecieron vagamente en el primer tomo. I have read Sandman through at least four times (I've read individual storylines or even individual issues even more than that) and I will read it at least that many times again.Despite finding some of it pretty good, I gave up my rereading of Sandman at this point, it's just not for me, the whole anthropomorphic personification of various metaphysical entities thingy! It cleans up the plotlines hinted at throughout the first half of the series and sets in motion everything that follows.
