This was the first Cooking Mama game released on a platform to receive a third-party console release. Other modes of play include practicing mini-games you’ve already unlocked and another where you’ll be able to combine dishes to make something a little more grand in scope.

Each of these tasks is accomplished by completing a minigame which usually lasts less than 10 seconds. In many cases, players must look at the top screen of the DS for guidance on what to do next and then perform the task on the bottom screen. Since its release on May 14, 2015, the game continues to be updated, including videos of various recipes being cooked, Mama's adventures, and other mini-games.

In November 2022, an arbitration ruling declared Planet Entertainment was not authorized to release Cooking Mama: Cookstar, and that the rightsholders would work to remove the game from sale. Multiple Cooking Contest modes: Co-Op, Solo Challenge, and Take Mama On, in which the player can actually battle Mama. The main game will show you a few rows of meals, and after picking one, you’ll have the option of practicing it first or heading right into the challenge. In this mode, players can take the recipes which have been unlocked and combine them to make something new.The highest medal earned for each dish is recorded and displayed next to each item on the selection screen.

Cooking Mama challenges players to use the stylus as a master kitchen tool to cook 76 real world dishes ranging from pepperoni pizza to cabbage meat rolls. Over 50 recipes and 300 ingredients in total, introducing sweets and dessert recipes for the first time.

I have to say though that for a 3 year old, it does take a little while to get used to, and as in the case of my daughter, she did need some support.
