About this deal

I’m torn as to whether I’ll read the next one , I’m curious but not sure if it’s as long as this one.

imagine you're lowkey destitute so your sister is able to swing you a job as an assistant to a pro hockey player. I loved hockey romances and I loved the chance to read a hockey romance by one of my favourite authors! The romance and initial attraction is there from the first page, but the actual romance takes a while to develop.however, it did feel like *something* was missing - some level of angst or drama that was constantly propelling the story forward. Hello, there are currently 2 listings for my book, 1 under my name and 1 under another author with the same pen name. i really enjoyed how the story arc was done for jamie’s relationship with his mom - the mental health rep for both of them was very believable. The storyline was quite weak and the concept of an aspiring singer who just needs to be told they’re good enough over and over is quite tired and made me cringe out loud. He invites her to stay at his residence so that she could assist him with tasks since so much of his time preparing and training for the upcoming hockey season.

I was pleasantly surprised to find there was no third-act breakup, but that's probably because it took all that time to get together so by the time they were together there were only 50 pages of the book left. For instance, Jamie’s near-constant use of Pippa’s “songbird” and “pretty assistant” nicknames gave me such an intense physical ick I almost chucked my Kindle into the sea. Alas, the publishing industry’s insistence on marketing smutty rom-com books with YA-looking artwork continues, and the first two books in Archer’s new ‘Vancouver Storm’ series are no different: Behind the Net, a grumpy-sunshine love story between a star hockey goalie and his assistant; and its sequel, The Fake Out, with a fake dating scenario between another player and the hockey team’s physical therapist. She snatches up the first opportunity available to work for the Hockey team that could lead to a full-time position.Pippa has spent her years since finishing school touring with her high school sweetheart Zach and his band, but after she is dumped at the airport and given a plane ticket home, she finds herself broke and lonely, forced to crash with her sister. She gets ditched by him and ends up as a personal assistant to Jamie Streicher who moved to the Vancouver hockey team to support the mental heath of his mother. this series will be so good and I’m prepared to fold like a piece of paper for stephanie archer men. The characters worked together instead of against each other to get what they wanted and that is so refreshing to read! The characters were cute together and I enjoyed the romantic portions, especially toward the end, it was just a bit too instalust for me.

The years of missing each other makes this insta-attraction feel more like a second chance romance, which I loved. Goodreads Librarians are volunteers who help ensure the accuracy of information about books and authors in the Goodreads' catalog. In this grumpy-sunshine set-up, professional star hockey goalie Jamie (infinitely grouchy, rude, in desperate need of therapy) inadvertently hires Pippa, his old high school crush (a happy-go-lucky musician with a confidence problem) as his live-in assistant in Vancouver. I am so happy that Pippa got the happy ending she deserved and that was her true revenge against him. Stephanie Archer brings the heat in her Queen’s Cove series and this first book in a hockey romance series is no exception.I loved that there wasn’t a third act breakup, and focused more on two people working together to get their HEA. I have to warn people though that this book is heavy on the insta-love and is quite cliche at times! FYI, the “[redacted]” example I mentioned in the intro to this review applies to this book in particular, and just . Pippa finds herself working as a personal assistant to Jamie Streicher a famous hockey goalie who she went to high. Stephanie please never stop writing, this is the 5th book of yours I’ve read this week and I’ll be running out of options soon at this rate.

Pippa and Jamie’s story instantly grabs you, and with an entertaining background cast of team mates and friends I cannot wait to read more from this series in the future.

Her parents are pressuring her to use her marketing degree, but Jamie gives her courage to come back to her dream of music. the setting was fun, hockey and forest walks etc, loved the little community of his hockey team and her sister tooo. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. the characters where adorable together and there's something about a hockey romance that's just inherently comforting.
