I just reread this book, pulled to it because of our snowy winter, our discussion regarding ethnic book awards, and my desire to fill my classroom bookshelves with books that work as mirrors for kids who used to look out the windows.

As a teacher I would use this story to reinforce the importance of descriptive writing and also building upon characters. The characters in this book give us a story of how one should be proud of their heritage and who they are.It gripped me, and I raced thought it, imagining myself reading it to my children and grandchildren.
