About this deal

It’s been a while since I’ve read a full book in one day but this was literally in my hand for the whole day. Who is trying to frame Cleo and just why is she pressing self-destruct on a life she is seemingly happy with? All the words, no matter how pretty, no matter how clever, if they don’t come from the heart, they mean nothing.

But now she has decided to walk away from it all—including divorcing her husband, Wallace—before her past secrets catch up with her.

Dorothy Koomson is a go-to author for me, here she successfully spins and weaves together fascinating characters, formidable secrets, and darkly knotted tension. A clever and multi-layered dark thriller, My Other Husband is a gripping read that left me gasping in shock more than once. It's just that the story arc follows the exact line you expect it to and, when coupled with the disappointing ending, the film doesn't make much of an impression. Things really start to fall apart, though, when someone tries to frame her murder – in the same ways as the crimes she makes up.

The ending hammers home with short sharp shocking chapters until I was finally able to take a huge intake of breath. As the reader gets to know more about modern-day Cleo, we are also taken back twenty-five years to when Cleo was a university student. Cleo is a successful author, but the people in her life are dying the same way as the characters in her novels are. However, as she drafts her final ever episode her life turns upside down and people she knows start getting hurt and it soon becomes clear that someone is trying to frame her for murder and she thinks she knows why. A unusual and thrilling tale of long kept secrets and dangerous obsession, combined with a cast of very strong characters. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Once I had finished this course, I was going to make sure I had all the tools to start and finish a book. The complex characters we follow in her latest novel centre on Cleo Forsum Pryce who we first meet in the present day when she is charged with attempted murder. The dangerous obsession within the relationship of husband and wife and the guilt when the wife found out…. I won’t say any more as I don’t want to put spoilers in this review but trust me, this is such a unique story – I haven’t read a thriller with something similar, so good!TW: racism, grooming, paedophilia, murder, sexism, misogyny, harassment, mental health, rape ⚠️ This was a really good slow burner that hits you with twists and turns when you least expect it. I appreciated how the theme of obsession was used throughout, but I just wanted to see more from a certain character. Nevertheless I enjoyed it and will be reading more of her books now, starting with the one I already own. I was totally gripped throughout the reading wondering why main character and successful author Cleo was dismantling her. Dorothy Koomson has sold over 2 million books through UK Bookscan alone and is a regular Sunday Times bestseller.

We know that Cleo is choosing to implode her own life, which seems to be going well, and we find out why through chapters dispersed throughout the current timeline that provide us the background that leads to her current situation. This was my first Koomson book (even though I've had one of her previous books on my shelf for the last 11 years, it's moved with me 7 times!Rating: Thank you to the publishers for a free advanced copy and the goodies in the photo below in exchange for an honest review. I certainly couldn’t predict how the story would eventually play out, anyway, and it constantly took me by surprise, so this was such a great reading experience for me overall. With shocking twists and an emotional, but satisfying conclusion, this is an expertly-crafted, rollercoaster of a novel that had me gripped from the beginning' Jendella Benson'Dorothy Koomson is on formidable form . She falls for him and at first they are very happy together, but Heath isn't who he appears to be and his behaviour becomes out of control and his jealousy increases.
