Starving the Anger Gremlin is an imaginative yet simply written publication designed to assist young people to identify and take appropriate action to deal with their responses to anger. The tried-and-tested program, based on effective cognitive behavioral therapy principles, can be worked through by a young person on their own or with a practitioner or parent, and is suitable for children and young people aged 10+. The clarity of the text and simplicity of the layout mean that young readers could use the book independently or with the supervision of a parent or carer, or as homework in between sessions with a mental health worker. On the whole I think this book is an excellent tool for prompting discussion around anxiety, explaining anxiety to a child and detaching them how to manage this response to situations. She currently runs a successful independent consultancy practice which provides cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling, coaching and training.

Starving the Anger Gremlin is a workbook of activities designed for young people with anger issues to work through on their own or with a parent or professional to help guide. This imaginative workbook shows young people how to starve their anger gremlin and control their anger effectively. This workbook was recommended to me by a colleague and, as a Headteacher, I have found it to be a fantastic resource for use in the school with Key Stage 2 pupils. Starving the Anger Gremlin is an ideal anger management resource for those working with young people including counselors, therapists, social workers and school counselors, as well as parents. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you.

I break up most chapters into 2-3 "lessons" with my son so we can get as much out of it as possible. It is written using British english (or some other kind that isn't American English) so I do have to switch some of the sayings around to American English: i. The book suggests that it can be used by the young person to work through or alongside an adult or professional. It works well as long as everyone involved with the child is on board and does the same thing you do. Starving the Anger Gremlin is an absolute necessity for anyone working with children and young people who may need help with their anger. Starving the gremlin" serves as a great metaphor for changing your thoughts to change your behavior. We’ve all been there: watching as our child completely breaks into uncontrollable rage/tears in front of us. He liked the fact that it was written in a non-judgemental way, that it gave you constructive tools to use and discussed examples that were relative to his world.
