About this deal

Moyes' novel Foreign Fruit won the Romantic Novelists' Association (RNA) Romantic Novel of the Year in 2004. As the renovations start on the dilapidated Spanish House Isabel faces one crisis after another but slowly we witness Isabel’s slow realisation that she has to behave like an adult and actually start looking after her children. She was completely useless, she couldn't handle doing the most basic things without either screwing it up or whinging about it.

The main characters are much more of a realistic mixture of traits, and I found Isabel's children particularly likeable. Jojo has won the Romantic Novelist’s Award twice, and Me Before You has been nominated for Book of the Year at the UK Galaxy Book Awards. I got through it in 4 hours so it is a good story, it just isn't her strongest although still a good tale.

No podemos hacer caso a la sinopsis, porque es un despiste total, y eso me tenía confundida al principio, de hecho pensaba "a ver cómo arreglas esto". I could visualise the ramshackle old house that she subsequently inherits at a totally desperate time of her life and, just when it seems nothing can possibly get worse, it does. I have the intros to two of her books in the back of Me Before You to help me decide which book of hers to read next. Now she has to deal with the whole responsibility to turn the house into a proper place to live in where has no bathroom, fridge and water supply. NIGHT MUSIC was a book that really delved into the harshness of life, and I couldn’t get enough of it.

Her novels have been translated into forty-four languages, have hit the number one spot in twelve countries and have sold over thirty-eight million copies worldwide. She developed such grit and determination throughout the story, and though it wasn’t the life she had wanted, she learned to take pride in it. Matt is an awful character and has cheated on his wife multiple times yet she continues to stay with him.But when her husband dies suddenly, leaving her with a mountain of debt, she and her two children are forced to abandon their home and move to the Spanish House, a now-dilapidated manor Isabel inherited in the English countryside.

I love it when the author shapes the story around characters, rather than making it seem as though the characters are merely bi-product of a plot outline, so this was perfect for me. But when they arrive, they realise that the house is much more than they bargained for, and the amount of work it needs is enormous.

There were a lot of life skills Isabel was just learning, and I like that the author took the time to show that. The Spanish House is known to locals as an architectural folly, and it is now nearly derelict to boot. So, when she arrives, she is shocked to see the house in a dilapidated state and the villagers are not the friendliest bunch of people. Byron was a fantastic character and his vast knowledge of how to live off the land was crucial to Isabel initially.

Matt was as irritating as Isabel, he was an entitled, deluded, self-obsessed, boring loser who never got any comeuppance for all the crap he pulled.

She's also obsessed with the memory of her recently deceased husband Laurent, whom she loved with an abiding passion. The book follows the families as they struggle with their ideas of love and marriage, revenge, family life, and what it takes to make a house a home. I think Moyes’ fans will lap it up and it will hopefully bring a lot more new readers to her fan base. It's a story of new beginnings and friendship; a novel about relationships and the importance of family life. Al principio me sentí un poco perdida, porque no lograba relacionar la sinopsis con lo que estaba leyendo.
