Illustrations from the Luttrell Psalter are everywhere, and well-known and well-used as illustrations by authors of books on all aspects of medieval life whether on dress, or warfare, or cooking, or farming, or whatever. A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce.it is safe to say that there are more of these illuminations here than you will have ever seen elsewhere, and that their variety is breathtaking. The binding by Smith Settle of Otley is in Nigerian goatskin leather blocked with a design by David Eccles using gold, silver and colored foils. For the purposes of calculating the resale royalty the Pounds Sterling/Euro rate of exchange will be the European Central Bank reference rate on the day of the sale.

This is not because of a lack of general index per se (which nevertheless is a bit shameful of the British Library) but because of a lack of any reference point to the pages of the Luttrell Psalter itself. However, I felt that this section should surely have appeared at the very beginning after the introduction. Psalters were books for personal devotion containing a calendar, the Psalms, and additional prayers, collects, and the Office of the Dead, though the contents could vary depending on what the patron wished to be included. The major text divisions are demarcated with ten historiated initials and another thirty-nine smaller versions make further subdivisions.
