About this deal

This second book still had all the things I loved from the first, but also expanded the story so well! The story went in directions I wasn't expecting, but I loved seeing how these characters grew throughout. I also loved getting to see the customs and culture of the other side of the island, and meeting so many new characters. I enjoyed seeing the differences and similarities of the Breccans and Tamerlaines. Sand had gathered under her nails and between her fingers. She could feel it coating her teeth. “I’ll wait here with him.”

torin & sidra are literally my parents. although i forgot to tab some of my fav moments btwn them they are to die for. the way torin is willing to do anything for sidra and protect her at all costs 🥹🥹 The character development in this book was also masterfully done - seeing Torin's journey with the spirits and Sidra in more of a leadership position really showcased how they have grown throughout the story. Her gaze shifted to Hamish’s feet. His tanned-hide boots were tethered up to his knees while his friends were barefooted, as all isle children who swam in the sea were supposed to be. Her nan had once told her that most healers hold the gift of premonition, that she should always follow those feelings, no matter their oddity, and now she couldn’t explain the gooseflesh that suddenly rippled over her arms. She nearly reached for the boot tethers, but then stilled her hand and turned instead to the three boys who stood around her. With lush worldbuilding and lyrical prose, A RIVER ENCHANTED feels like the echo of a folktale from a world right next to our own’ Hamish’s entire lower leg was mottled purple and blue, similar to the appearance of a fresh bruise. His veins were prominent and shimmered with gold. The discoloration seemed to be creeping up his leg and was on the cusp of claiming his knee. He had obviously hidden the ailment from his friends beneath his boot, and he must have been concealing it for a while, since it had spread so far.

Ross creates a magical story with lyrical prose that draws the reader into the tale and its setting. Recommend this series to fans of Jeffe Kennedy, Susanna Clarke, and Terry Brooks.” — Library Journal However, I would say that the world building was a little muddy in places as we skim over the details of the various elements and magic and how exactly music is utilised. The plot is also a little predictable in places, with situations and plot points that are easily resolved by a handy word from a friendly sprite or, to put it more precisely, a memory. However, that isn't to day I wasn't intrigued by the story and I found while I was reading this that I couldn't put it down, swept away in the lush settings and easy writing style. It was certainly an enjoyable time. This was way better than river enchanted in my opinion. The characters development and struggles and the mystery, the plot twist everything was very good and it was the perfect conclusion to the story that started in river enchanted 🫶🏻 i can’t recommend this series enough 😭 i think everyone one should experience this lyrical and beautiful writing and the magical story. If you loved divine rivals you’re definitely going to adore this series. Because this is absolute ✨P.E.R.F.E.C.T.I.O.N ✨i truly did love this book, although it made me a bitttt sleepy at points!! the ending was absolutely perfect, the perfect ending to a series <33 Vividly imagined . . . This will appeal to lovers of fantasy from Name of the Wind to the Earthsea series.” — Publishers Weekly on A River Enchanted

I fell in love this with this enchanting world and the amazing characters even more in this book. The pacing was perfect and the plot engaged me the entire book. There were several plot twists that I didn't expect that had me at the edge of my seat. I loved learning more about this unique world inspired by Scottish folklore. I enjoyed learning more about the elemental faeries (earth, wind, fire and water) and their past. The stories of the past flowed seamlessly through the lyrical and descriptive writing. The fall vibes in this book was immaculate and made me want to snuggle up in a cozy blanket. The ending was so beautiful and heartbreaking. I was so happy that the characters had the ending that they deserved. I honestly cried both happy and sad tears. This book has my whole heart. This was an absolutely stunning conclusion to one of the most enchanting stories I've ever had the pleasure of consuming.Like, I can't even tell you anything that is objectively wrong here, at all. Not very much of a useful review, in terms of y'all being like okay that is a helpful piece of information! More useful probably is that the consensus on this book is that it is a good ending to the duology. Many people whose opinions I trust on Goodreads have said it was bettera than A River Enchanted!
