Simulation (SIM) Mode: Simulating a specific outdoor grade – i.e., 8% incline. In this mode, it’s just like outdoors in that you can change your gearing to make it easier or harder. Wattage is not hard-set, only incline levels.

Looking at that data set, the H3 is slightly lower than the Assioma/Giant for your steady-state portions. It seems roughly 10w lower, if I apply a 10s smoothing.Most of this is from years past, but I wanted to repeat it for this year. I’ve tweaked things where appropriate and/or where they’ve changed. Data transfer between the trainer and other areas of the system is wireless. By doing so, you can manage resistance levels and display all the different parameters to have great personalization and interactivity in your indoor training session. The second mode the trainer has is ERG mode. In that case, the company claims up to 1,300w of resistance at 40KPH. Although, realistically, you don’t care about that. I can only barely (maybe) break 1,000w for a second or two. For comparison, most pros are going to top-out in the 1,600-1,800 range. And ultimately, if you’re breaking the 1,000w barrier frequently, you probably really want a direct-drive trainer anyway. In any event, I find that the cross-over between people who really like riding rollers and the people who really like the technology aspect tends to be rather small. Said differently, roller people tend to be more purists who don’t want technology in the way (not all of course, but most). The Elite Tuo shows us that it is still possible to fall in love with a wheel-on trainer, especially after how much direct-drive trainers have dominated the market. This all matters when it comes to apps – but the thing you need to know is that you want your trainer to be dual capable, and it should ideally support if you want resistance control across a broad number of apps. A non-smart trainer will give you an adjustment knob to up or reduce the resistance yourself. But a smart trainer will vary resistance automatically, which opens up a much more interesting experience when you link your trainer up to Zwift, Wahoo X or any one of a number of indoor training apps. For me, in my testing, I used Zwift and TrainerRoad as my two main apps (which are the two main apps I use personally). In the case of Zwift, I used it in regular riding mode (non-workout mode, aka SIM mode) as well as ERG mode (workout mode). Whereas in the case of TrainerRoad I used it in a structured workout mode (ERG mode). I dig into the nuances of these both within the power accuracy section. It is a real problem that can happen, and is essentially ignored by trainer makers. It leads to your issue, where people are completely unaware that misalignment is an actual possibility in the first place. Then they assume something is “broken” when there is simply a common adjustment necessary.

Thanks for your remarks to my experience. I have now found the second review you made, and note a significant history of problems with electronics and connectivity of the TUO, not only problems with the Elite App. This just looks to me as if Elite brought the TUO into the market in a hurry without thinking through the whole product offering. With a string of new higher cost models now launched, I am sure their problem solving focus is on the upper end of their range. As you can imagine, this becomes a question of where you put your limited resources – to make a smaller profit on a larger number of lower cost sales, or vice versa.
