Issued by the prestigious British Film Institute (BFI), the Dance Craze dual format set boasts a 4K restoration from original film materials, with new 5. The crushing poverty of the Depression brought the first boom of blues recording to an abrupt halt at the dawn of the 1930s. The film, shot in 1980, comprised performance footage of Madness, The Specials, The Selecter, The Bodysnatchers, the Beat and Bad Manners on tour throughout the United Kingdom.

At the height of the 2-tone ska movement came Dance Craze, a comprehensive music video film charting the best of the 1970s and 80s ska craze in Britain - a movement dominated by such greats as The Specials, Madness, The Selecter and Bad Manners. It brilliant first use of steady cams also done by a cinematographer who worked with Stanley Kubrick – also the bands are filmed from the stage showing the audience going absolutely mental. For those keeping score, this will mark the first time anything Madness-related is available on Blu-ray Disc. The extra tracks make this new release a compulsory purchase, the added tracks are from the film soundtrack so for the first time the complete film is available on cd, with the added bonus of a replica poster that came with the original vinyl.

The soundtrack now comes back out on these special expanded editions with original poster (or facsimile of it I guess). Later versions of the soundtrack album do not contain the Madness tracks, adding tracks credited to the Special AKA, a later incarnation of the Specials. The next big trend to emerge a little later in the decade revolved around blues guitarists, virtually all of them originally hailing from the rural South, their approach closely related to field hollers and work songs.

I bought the vinyl when it was released a year later and was blown away then and this CD bought it all back.
