It certainly makes the iO7 stand out from the crowd, but in all reality what you can do on the screen is really quite limited. This isn’t a major issue for the vast majority of users. I wouldn’t say it’s a reason to avoid it, particularly as the Series 9 has a magnetic fast charger capable of topping the battery up in just 3 hours. If you are a frequent traveler it is something to bear in mind. The Series 9 has 7 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense, whiten, gum care & tongue clean) compared to the 5 of the Series 7 (daily clean, sensitive, intense, whiten & gum care). The extra modes the iO9 has are super sensitive and tongue clean.
minutes is the optimum time to rush. Unsurprisingly the iO encourages you to achieve this. As you brush, the motor pauses at 30 second intervals to prompt you to move to the next part of your mouth. We were enormously impressed by the performance of the Oral-B iO Series 9, and the Series 6 is basically identical, from first impressions to final testing.Unlike the Oclean X Pro Elite, it is not a touchscreen. This is a good thing. You control it via the function buttons above and below. There was no discernible difference in the brushing performance between the brushes, and spending the required two minutes with either will deliver that “fresh from the hygienist” feeling that users really want from powered brushes. We definitely didn’t miss those extra two modes that the iO9 offered, especially as the tongue-cleaning mode is merely 20 seconds of further brushing, but on your tongue. If you want to do this with the iO7, just disconnect from the app and turn the brush onto its intense mode for the required amount of time. One issue we have seen right away with the iO is that gunk and grime collect under the brush head if you leave it on after brushing. After just one session, I found a terrific amount once I took the brush head off for testing. Keeping it clean is a bit more challenging than other brushes we tested. It is necessary because, as I mentioned before, the brush heads are angled, so they do not stand upright on their own. Care and long-term use
If you know that you are going to take that time, then after using it for a few weeks you will begin to have a memory of where you need to go in your mouth and how long you need to stay there to make sure every surface of the tooth has been covered. You can tell that Oral-B is excited about the iO. When I connected for the first time, it gave me a little snowflake screen splash showing me that I was connecting an iO! The iO10’s pacer is often set to 20 second (sextant) intervals compared to the 30 second (quadrant) intervals of the iO9.The visual pressure sensor on the iO9 is one of the best out there. This is useful if you brush too hard or scrub your teeth. The iO5 has a brush head replacement reminder light in the cleaning mode button. The iO6 has this reminder on the display. I’ve always liked the intense clean that the round brush head gives, but some, understandably, have found it to be too much.
Some sessions are better than others. It regularly thinks you are brushing a different zone to the one you are in, or not register it at all. There can also be a noticeable lag/delay in the visuals. But the app and brush don’t provide alerts at 20-second intervals for sextant pacing. There are no prompts for when to switch zones. You have to decide yourself when to move the brush around. The Series 9 comes with a power2go charging case that allows the iO to be charged inside whereas the Series 8 comes with a standard travel case.
