About this deal

Guided by the principles, intrinsic play value, originality, strong construction and good value for money, their creations remain at the forefront of the pre-school and baby toy market.

Which is a much better thing for kids than something that can only ever play 10 songs, and which they cannot alter in any meaningful sense. The design, which has been around since the 1970s, includes five double-sided records for kids to play on the wind-up turntable. They leach high levels of phthalates into the air quite quickly which are highly toxic, far, far more toxic than the typical emissions of your average human. I, too, was disgusted that it took batteries but you still had to wind the knob, but I was even more offended by the awful staticky sound from the tiny speaker. In this case, it'll end with the current generation of children, because toys like the one we're discussing here have nothing in them to create lasting memories.Nonetheless, it seemed like a potentially cool gift for someone who doesn't want to go trolling through flea markets or online auction sites for an original. We were given one as a gift for our 2 year old, and I noticed it wasn’t like the one I had as a kid… But we were open minded and thought, since it’s been 30 years, we should expect some differences… The issue we have is that the records (all of them) will only play on one side! By accepting these services, we are able to show you videos or other media content hosted by external providers.

But the point is: the old one was actually playing music off the disks, the new one only pretends to do it. Literally everything that made the original such a fond memory is gone and what you're left with is a cheap trick that had none of the lasting appeal of the original. If someone is going to develop creativity and tech skills using a smartphone it'll be despite their device not because of it. What a thing it was to behold, an authenticity that the child in us could always appreciate and be impressed and moved by.After dusting it down, we realised that records were playing intermittently and slowly at best and the problem seemed related to the rather cool winding mechanism within. Digital computing at the server scale is already chaotic, since "complex systems operate in a degraded state". Our two (now three) year old daughter can now play with the record player as her mum did – very cute. With a turntable and a needle that replicates a vintage record player, this retro toy grows with your child as they develop. The capabilities are there, but it's not what those devices are for any more than a toaster is a gaming PC just because you can hack it enough to get Doom to run.

Versus the original which could play a much larger variety of songs based on the records themselves.
