Angel-winged, beautiful in both body and mind, Sanguinius was arguably the greatest of his father’s sons. Sanguinius’ glory was that of a demigod, for he was a mighty warrior and an inspiring leader, and his sons followed him with unquestioning devotion. All through the days of the Great Crusade and into the dark madness of the Horus Heresy, the Blood Angels fought at their Primarch’s side. Inspired by Sanguinius’ divine presence, the Blood Angels remained staunch in the Emperor’s defence to the very end. Their bolters blazed from the ramparts of the Imperial Palace even as the Warmaster came to seize his father’s throne, and the Blood Angels were amongst the first loyalists to know of Chaos’ defeat when Horus fell to the Emperor’s wrath. Sanguinary Guard may be the best unit in the Blood Angel codex, which has the amusing side effect that this elite and rare brotherhood is found in almost every competitive Blood Angels list.

After the battle in the Signus Cluster, the Blood Angels were able to link up with Ultramar and under the watchful eyes of Roboute Guilliman Sanguinius was eventually crowned Emperor of Imperium Secundus. [31] The White Scars– formerly the V Legion Astartes – are renowned as both one of the most popular Space Marine chapters, and one of the hardest to paint. The sons of Primarch Jaghatai Khan, a.k.a. the Warhawk, the White Scars were briefly neutral in the Horus Heresy, before coming down firmly on the side of the Emperor. In the 41st millennium, they’re still going strong, and compliant with the Codex Astartes, counting many successor chapters to their name. Eachlegion wasmany thousands strong, and each was bred exclusively fromthe genetic material of one of the Imperium’s extraordinary Primarchs: uniquelyadvanced primogenitor marines made from the Emperor’s own genetic code, each of whomacted as a crusading general at the head of his allotted legion.
