Rounds depicts the sort of future where white walls with moving paintings of waterfalls pass for an organic surrounding. It’s a simple and elegant reminder of the beauty of the world, before tarnished by man. Kieran chops up live drums, sampled mandolin, and alien noises that repaint a much more alive sound of far East of the world and not-so-far East of Chicago. Not to sound pompous, but it’s a revolution. He begins with a ambient hum, adds in offbeat fills, breaks in the beat, glosses with some keyboard variations, and that’s just the beginning. We can pause and see just how every little thing comes in and how it links into the greater chain of the song. There is something both very hip-hop and Eastern about it all, as it has that simple driving beat but does it with such grace and purity. The most recent hearing in December was in response to Four Tet (real name Kieran Hebden) filing an amended legal claim against Domino. Hebden’s lawyer Aneesh Patel told Resident Advisor: “The case came at an important time while there was a government enquiry into the economics of streaming and the Broken Record campaign has been gaining increasing momentum.” Although his infamous-Country Riddim drop is done with a lot of humor behind it, his love for modern bass is quite apparent with this tune, alongside other set favorites like Saka’s ‘Shaolin,’ Posij’s ‘YGT YGT YGT’ and Hydraulix & SUAHN’s ‘Brain Damage.’

The night of 19 April, shortly after collecting his daughter from a theatre rehearsal, Hebden was at home noodling away with Fred Again when the phone rang. Their booking agent, practically combusting, announced that, with Frank Ocean out of Coachella’s second weekend, they and Skrillex had the gig. They were barely listening. “We both got the giggles,” Hebden says. “Can you imagine a booking agent making that call? It was this combination of adrenaline and testosterone, like something out of Jerry Maguire.”

At the centre, where the mixing desk might normally be found, is Hebden, his Anglepoise lamp and his jumble of kit. Only about 100 people can actually see him, because although Hebden is now officially a superstar DJ, slaying dancefloors at Coachella last month, topping bills in proper clubs and headlining nights at festivals, he eschews elevation where he can. Critics praised its unique fusion of electronic and organic styles, and Metacritic lists it as the fourth best-reviewed album of 2003. Several publications included Rounds on "best albums of the decade" lists. In May 2013, on the tenth anniversary of its release, Domino reissued Rounds with a bonus disc including a 2004 live performance.
