I'm so happy that this is my first Gaarder's book. I love how he evokes emotions in the reader's mind without even trying to manipulate them. It makes the book "narrow," in focus. In France, this is called "a theory novel"—a book that sets out to prove a theory, rather than present a whole picture. Do you think it is a limitation? My only real gripe with The Orange Girl is its poor English translation. There were times the translation left me scratching my head wondering why wasn't this proofed better?
