About this deal

In my presentation experience, I see usually those 3 most popular kinds of structures: classical 3-part, monotonous and ‘Hollywood-movie’ style. When you explain such structures, I suggest you draw a simple diagram like the one above. Either on a flipchart or if you want to have materials prepared before, then make a slide with those speech flow diagrams. So if you’re having training on how to create and deliver a presentation, you can reuse slide from our collection in your projects. Or just get inspiration from my slides and create them yourself.

Exercises are an integral part of any experiential learning activity. While designing effective experiential learning exercises requires a lot of practice and experience, you need to start somewhere.

Long intense: (1-2 week event ~ 40-80 learning hours): Beyond the basic skills, it allows for some of the more complex interpersonal topics that a trainer needs to master, such as group dynamics, group facilitation and interaction. Trainees are usually expected to design and deliver sessions on a wide range of non-technical topics (e.g. “soft skills” training sessions). This format is particularly useful if your group of trainees will work together in the future, as the length and intensity of the event will accelerate their team development. First, let’s start with the length of the event. 7 days? That sounds like a lot of time to ask of both participants and the organisation. And funding such an initiative is a big commitment.

For visual learners, maps, flow charts, and process diagrams are the way to go. They respond better to all these devices that explain something graphically instead of words. There is so much that must be done for an engaging training session beyond just a trainer stepping on the stage, sharing knowledge and facilitating exercises. A lot of this is ‘soft’ stuff and comes with years of practice.

Many presenters realise that their slides shouldn’t contain walls of text. But, unable to successfully visualise the information that they want to help convey, they replace the text with pictures that are only tangentially (or metaphorically) related to their training presentation content. The problem? These visuals don’t really help learners to understand or remember the training material. In either case, there are a lot of interesting questions about how to build up an effective program. We have had the opportunity to observe a wide range of train the trainer programs at several international NGOs, and from them we have drawn some best practices outlined in the next chapters. What we commonly call “effective presentation” is the right balance of two elements: the content you provide and how you deliver it. The first part is on your expertise and every piece of information you can share. But the second part is where the real magic happens.

Of course, your trainees won’t become masters of group dynamics immediately after this session, but they can learn the importance of observing, and reacting to, the dynamics in their own future sessions. Break and Final Training Preparations (Day 5) Present future expectations and practical next steps they will have as a trainer in your organisation. If you decide to go for our handdrawnstyle diagrams, you will be able to easily edit all content, adapt the colors to your brand, add the whole slides or particular charts to your training presentation. Graphics resource: Presentation skills training toolbox If you are new to the concept, a train the trainer course can be difficult to get your head around. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions associated with the train the trainer approach. This often means factoring in the needs and other commitments of the group and choosing the right type of train the trainer course.Debriefing is the key that enables participants to identify and connect lessons from workshop or training activities to their real world. Effective learning happens when a person progresses through a cycle of four stages in the following sequence: The right stories – told with enough detail, and where there’s genuine uncertainty and interest about what will happen – can make your training come to life.
