IMPORTANT UPDATE: YouTube (as of 2015) now features episodes of the original series, side by side comparing the original footage with the new CGI versions. If you are not aware of the differences, be sure to watch these YouTube clips(look for TrekkieChannel) and read this review, so you know exactly what you are getting before you buy.) With the assistance of the Enterprise crew, Admiral Kirk must stop an old nemesis, Khan Noonien Singh, from using the life-generating Genesis Device as the ultimate weapon. This is great news, but can someone tell Paramount to change the Enterprise to the correct version on the front of the box. It is the Phase 2 version which is wrong on many levels. In the 23rd Century, Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise explore the galaxy and defend the United Federation of Planets. Follow-up series to Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) that centers on Jean-Luc Picard in the next chapter of his life.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture Comparing The Three Versions of Star Trek: The Motion Picture

A century before Captain Kirk's five-year mission, Jonathan Archer captains the United Earth ship Enterprise during the early years of Starfleet, leading up to the Earth-Romulan War and the formation of the Federation.Releases [ ] note: only listed are the first known release date for each respective region, which in the case of Region 2 does not necessarily concern the UK. Original Region 1 release [ ] see also: early Original Series remastering. Volume Be aware that like the remastered issue DVD's, these Blu-Ray releases include the revamped CG special effects, a controversial choice for sure but take it from an amateur 3D artist, for the average Joe these revamped special effects do look quite cool, presenting themselves as a problem to only the Trek purists (even though I consider myself an ardent fan!) and possibly veterans of CG modelling and animation that probably would have done it all differently. My only critique with a lot of the CG shots of the Enterprise is that the ship can look a little too light on it's feet for what is apparently a million gross tonnes of vessel. If you are reading this review, but have never actually seen TOS - is that even possible?!?!?! - be aware... MILD SPOILERS AHEAD! The news keeps on coming for Star Trek home media. Following Wednesday’s earlier announcement that Paramount is remastering the Director’s Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture for Paramount+, they announced more ways to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the franchise. Original Series 4K Movies Collection Walter Koenig, Frank da Vinci, Gene Nelson, David Alexander, William Shatner, James Doohan, Katherine Woodville, George Takei, Majel Barrett, Anton Leader, Herbert Kenwith, Gerd Oswald, DeForest Kelley, Nichelle Nichols, Don McDougall, Jon Lormer, Herb Wallerstein, Byron Morrow, Harvey Hart, Leonard Nimoy See more There are a number of ways the same plot (or at least a very similar one) could have been improved. The first thing I would have done was loose Khan. That was a bad move right there because the first thing it does is get fans comparing the two. Lose the “Badmiral”. We’ve seen far too many of those. After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.TNG Season 3 DVD, TNG Season 4 DVD, TNG Season 5 DVD, TNG Season 6 DVD, TNG Season 7 DVD re-releases The further adventures of Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise, as they explore the galaxy and defend the United Federation of Planets. Overall, the series as a whole, however, is so good that even with the new cuts and less than convincing effects, it remains a compelling viewing experience.

The Complete Star Trek Movies DVD Box Set Collection

What you have on the discs are the original programs, cleaned up and color balanced to the point where some of the scenes look as if they were filmed only yesterday! You also have the new "enhanced" versions that have had the original grungy old model shots replaced by beautiful new CGI footage, including all the shots of the Bridge View Screen. From the main menu you have the option to watch the episodes with, or without the new CGI, plus you can even switch between them while you're watching the show, although I find that very distracting. Paramount just announced that on September 7th they will be releasing a brand new set featuring the first four feature films with the original Star Trek crew in 4K Ultra HD. The movies are newly remastered from original film elements and presented with Dolby Vision® and HDR10. The collection includes four Ultra HD Blu-ray discs as well as four remastered standard Blu-ray discs with all the previously released bonus content. On the eve of retirement, Kirk and McCoy are charged with assassinating the Klingon High Chancellor and imprisoned. The Enterprise crew must help them escape to thwart a conspiracy aimed at sabotaging the last best hope for peace.VERY IMPORTANT: there are cuts and edits in these versions, apparently designed by the powers that be to speed up the narrative. The problem is, these cuts wind up damaging the narrative. Newer fans will likely not know the difference, but long-time fans will definitely notice scenes and important bits of dialogue painfully missing---and be incensed. This series was so good that it can withstand these cuts, but they still should not have been made at all. They stupidly destroy a number of memorable classic scenes, some of them extremely important. In some cases, the cuts are so bad, the narrative almost makes no sense. For instance, in original and correct versions of The Ultimate Computer, Richard Daystrom's psychology, M5's "issues", and Kirk's reaction to automation unravel gradually, and tension ratchets up step by step, while in the revised versions, every plot development is abrupt. In "For the World is Hollow...", so many scenes are missing that that the high priestess falls for McCoy suddenly and for no apparent reason. In "Assignment Earth", the comedic antics of Teri Garr's Roberta Lincoln are cut, as are some priceless jokes in "Piece of the Action". There are many examples like this. These cuts are a big problem with the remastered versions for those who remember, and reason enough by itself to be cautious about owning them. (This is why I give the remastered set 3.5 stars instead of 4.) Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Complete Series, Star Trek: Voyager - The Complete Series, Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Series Once again we have a couple of bizarre Star Date overlaps between seasons with the weak season opener "Elaan Of Troyius," and personal favorite "Spectre Of The Gun," taking place between Season 2's "The Immunity Syndrome" and "I, Mudd," with "Day Of The Dove," "That Which Survives," and the original pilot, "The Cage," being "Star Date: Unknown." Personally, I’d absolutely dispute this figure, because on the relatively few films that I saw conventionally projected in ideal conditions from the late 60s to the early 2000s, I’ve only been able to recapture the look and feel of those memorable theatrical experiences with a few blus, but with a LOT of 4Ks. That suggests the full amount of info on those films exceeds previous homevid versions by a considerable amount while supporting the contentions of countless industry professionals.

Alternatively I thougth we were going to get Earth taken over by Gary Mitchell, pulling Starships out of the sky. In the vicinity of the liberated planet of Bajor, the Federation space station Deep Space Nine guards the opening of a stable wormhole to the far side of the galaxy. As for Beyond, ironically I saw that movie in the same place I saw Nemesis, just 14 years later at the Chinese theater in Hollywood. I have to say while I didn’t love it, it is the best out of the Kelvin movies for me and the ONLY movie I have ever watched twice in IMAX. Definitely enjoyed it at the movies although not so much at home for some reason! Sadly though, both of these movies basically ended each of their movie franchises, but I digress. If you consider that the Classic Star Trek is a 60's television show... A very cheaply made 60's television show then you might wonder (perhaps quite rightly) if there's even much point in CBS applying all the effort and expense dusting off all that old footage and rescanning it all to Hi-Def; I mean all the releases on DVD looked pretty good didn't they? - Sure they did! Well I'm here to assure you that the answer is YES! -- Yes it was definitely all worth it. The picture quality of the Blu-Ray release of this series IS a whole world of amazing, perhaps a little too amazing for a show that was shot in the 60's on a shoestring budget; you see everything with fantastic clarity, the colours are great, the weave in the costumes, the texture of peoples faces, the colour of their eyes, the displays and signage on the Enterprise are screaming out at you for your attention; but then so is the coffee stain on the bridge carpet!
