About this deal

All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate.

Tropes. Orphan twins are very tropey. Due to societal norms, most of the time the boy is the intellectual, engineer one and the girl is the more dreamy, book nerd. This one flips that around, which I like. I would have liked to see more of that in the story with the plot. TakeawaysOnce again another amazing land created by Vashti Hardy. I don't know how she creates these worlds - but each time it feels so real and you become so immersed in the story.

In this activity your children will work on the use of apostrophes from chapters 1 and 2. Some of your children will recognise and identify how an apostrophe is used for a contraction and others will look at apostrophes to show possession. The 1st book in the suspenseful series has been known to change children in a way you can't imagine. The twins are so determined to find him, and their newly discovered aunt is also in the search. Arthur, Maudie, and Harriet Culpepper doubt that the investigation is for covering something else. What might Eudora Vane be looking for in the Eastern Isles? He goes through many difficulties as he grieves his father and his emotional narrative plays a significant role in the story while he grows as a character. Vashti’s world-building poses questions about our own world. Can we invent power sources that do not harm the environment? Are the animals around us more intelligent than we think? Vashti Hardy’s narrative is narrated with confidence that allows her imaginative ideas to soar high. Lontown for London (I don’t know if this is what was meant, but I couldn’t unmake this connection in my mind.) With bold and bright illustrations, this book is a great way to find out about some unsung heroes and to celebrate the achievements of women around the world. 3. The Polar Bear Explorers' Club byAlex Bell, illustrated by Tomislav Tomic This resource explores a few characters from the story and focuses in on descriptions of those characters. This helps your children identify the terminology used by the author and the effect that has in building up a picture inside the reader’s head. Your KS2 children will also have the opportunity to reflect on the descriptions and answers questions, identify links and make comparisons.

Thus began my reading of Brightstorm. Perhaps that is why I was not thrilled with the beginning of this book. I didn’t get swept up in the steampunk craze that began a number of years ago. I admire the creativity in all the costumes and the art, but not many of the stories enticed me to read them. But the cover on this one…Did you see the cover on this book?? It is simply beautiful! Absolutely loved this book and can't wait to continue the series. I was engaged from the start and loved the character build up. Author Vashti Hardy knows a thing or two about what makes a thrilling adventure for children - that's what makes her book Brightstormsuch a rip-roaring read! They are devastated by the news and confused, and they don’t know what to believe. After investigation, the Lontown Geographical Society has found Ernest Brightstorm guilty of destroying the expedition of Eudora Vane, his competitor. A mysterious clue makes the twins question the story they’ve just been told. To discover the truth, they’ve to go on a lifetime journey. It’s a fascinating and compelling adventure with lively landscapes and fantastic characters of the author’s vividly imagined world. The characters are incredible, with Arthur being sensitive and intuitive while Maudie is clever and has a diversified mind. Harriet, on the other hand, is an unflappable explorer.
