Many of the bosses are only vulnerable after you’ve crossed out activating spaces, so these can be key to winning. A game of Dungeons, Dice and Danger ends when the players collectively defeat all of the monsters on the map. That’s because you will sometimes take turns where you will mark off two spots in quick succession that line up with pairs you were hoping to roll. Even though 2d6 is its currency, it doesn’t conform to the traditional notions of 2d6 probability as strategy. There are also 2 more enemies in the Expert dungeon, which doesn’t sound like much but when they’re armored can prove quite the challenge.

But then you get back up, and soon you understand this game state better and the headspace you have to inhabit to thrive in it, and start to remember the distinct personalities of each map. One gives you a gem and some extra Life Points, another lets you cross off any two spaces of your choice, and the third lets you use the Black Die another three times. I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking to pick up an easy-to-explain game or something quick to play inbetween heavier games. Then games are more thrilling and adventurous even when they are at their most agonizing with cursed dice syndrome.I think it only appears in English rulebooks, but we were definitely about to wait until one player has defeated all of the monsters, which would have just resulted in a ton of lost life.

If players however go too far and take too much damage, they will die and are out of the game; this thankfully does not happen much.With four different boards to play, there is plenty of variety in the box, and they do give you a lot of sheets to play on, so it will be a long while before you run out. You get gems for killing monsters; players who are “firsties” in defeating a specific monster get more. It lets me focus on the strategy of navigating the dungeon and figuring out each one’s particular quirks.
