About this deal

Make sure you re-login to enable read and write permissions for the serial port. Verify Serial Connection  UART with 16-byte FIFO buffers. Up to 1.5Mbit/s. The ST16C155X is not compatible with the industry standard 16550 and will not work with the standard serial port driver in Microsoft Windows. UART is one of the most used device-to-device (serial) communication protocols. It’s the protocol used by Arduino boards to communicate with the computer. It allows an asynchronous serial communication in which the data format and transmission speed are configurable. It's among the earliest serial protocols and even though it has in many places been replaced by SPI and I2C it's still widely used for lower-speed and lower-throughput applications because it is very simple, low-cost and easy to implement. A 16-byte FIFO allows up to 16 characters to be received before the computer has to service the interrupt. This increases the maximum bit rate the computer can process reliably from 9600 to 153,000bit/s if it has a 1 millisecond interrupt dead time. A 32-byte FIFO increases the maximum rate to over 300,000bit/s. A second benefit to having a FIFO is that the computer only has to service about 8 to 12% as many interrupts, allowing more CPU time for updating the screen, or doing other chores. Thus the computer's responses will improve as well.

Also, to learn more about the differences between UART and other protocols like I2C and SPI, please see following blogs: The 2692 has a single-byte transmitter holding register and a 4-byte receiver FIFO for each channel. Maximum standard speed of both of the 2692's channels is 115.2kbit/s. The Beagle USB 480 Power Protocol Analyzer – Standard and Ultimate Editions can non-intrusively monitor High-speed USB 2.0 (up to 480 Mbps) and offer class-level decoding. This tool provides real-time graphing of VBUS current and voltage values and allows for interactive and bi-directional correlation of current/voltage values with USB data. The Ultimate edition also allows for USB 2.0 advanced triggers. Beagle USB 5000 v2 SuperSpeed Protocol Analyzer – Standard and Ultimate Editions:

This UART can handle a maximum standard serial port speed of 921.6kbit/s if the maximum interrupt latency is 1millisecond. This UART was introduced by Exar Corporation. Exar claims that early versions can run up to 2Mbit/s, and later versions can run up to 2.25Mbit/s depending on the date of manufacture. This UART allows asynchronous operation up to 288kbit/s, with two independent four-byte FIFOs. It was produced by Intel at least from 1993 to 1996, and Innovastic Semiconductor has a 2011 Data Sheet for IA82510.UART interface support for 7 or 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits and odd / even / mark / space / no parity.
