Played with concerning Hannah. She's Taylor's aunt; Tate told her that she shouldn't be anything like a mother to Taylor because Taylor already had a mother. Hannah kept Taylor at arm's length for years, and Taylor became envious of the warmth Hannah showed to other girls like Jessa. When you can manage making my heart feel so passionately for a person who only exists in whisps of memories throughout the entire course of a novel, I salute you. The war has been going on as long as any of them can remember and has caused serious hostilities between the three factions. What makes things even more complicated, though, is that not everyone is on board with Taylor being the leader, and she faces serious opposition in the task ahead. Wee.

I think what also added to my experience was that I read this with a group of besties. We'd text eachother our thoughts and laugh about how much this book was making us cry. I had the best time reading this. A thousand thanks to Fares for suggesting we read one of his favourite books. It has become one of mine as well 🌻. Taylor and Jonah: unprotected sex? Not cool. I'm a gynecologist, and I pay attention to these things, and neither Taylor nor Jonah seem to be at the point in their lives when they seem ready to have a kid - which can happen. STDs are also not cool, you know? Chlamydia is not a joke! I wish Melina Marchetta included a condom-buying scene. It may dampen the mood, but would have provided protection and a nod of approval from this Ob/Gyn doc. I think Jellicoe Road is best read if you jump into it blindly. So I'll try not to give too much away in this review. Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award: Winner of the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award in the Older Readers category in 2007. Since the age of eleven Taylor Markham has been at boarding school. At seventeen she is now the chosen leader of her school's underground activities and is in charge of how they proceed in the annual territory wars against the townies and visiting cadets.Ian Hacon, co-owner of Zaks alongside Chris Carr, said: "Chris and I are very excited about this project. The story centers on Taylor Markham, a girl that was abandoned on the Jellicoe Road by her mother at the age of 11. She lives at a boarding school (orphanage???). When the lady that has taken care of her disappears, she is certain that something is amiss. Taylor sets out to find Hannah, or discover what really happened to her. The Reveal: The real identities of the five kids in Hannah's story: Narnie is Hannah, Jude is the Brigadier, Webb is Taylor's dead father, Tate is Taylor's absent mother, and Fitz is the Hermit and Jessa's father.

As Taylor investigates, she begins to uncover a complex web of secrets and lies that have been kept hidden for years. She learns that Hannah, the headmaster, was once a student at the Jellicoe School and was involved in a tragic incident that left several people dead. Taylor also learns that Jonah’s father was involved in the incident and that Jonah has a personal stake in uncovering the truth. News of Zaks' involvement in the Iron Duke project comes months after the burger chain bought the Yankee Traveller a couple of miles down the road, in King Street. Genre Mashup: The 'band' put together by the three groups consists of two guitarists, a DJ and a violinist. It works. Somehow. As always, it is hard for me to explain what I like about a 5-star book, but I'll try. Melina Marchetta draws characters that are deep, complex, and real. The relationships among them are touching - more than anything I think, this book is about the power of friendship and, boy, there are some magnificent examples of friendship in this book! The book is also about grief, guilt, forgiveness and, of course, love.

The only adult in Taylor’s life is Hannah, and even she is distant and evasive. When Hannah leaves town without telling Taylor where she is going, Taylor investigates. The school principal tells her that Hannah has gone to Sydney to care for a friend, and Taylor suspects that there is more to this story than the principal is revealing. She comes to believe that Hannah’s disappearance has something to do with her. Most of them were and everything made sense, but there were two questions that I had that I really wanted to know the answers to. The answers wouldn't really add anything to the story... I'm just nosey. Luke, I Am Your Father: It's played straight with Taylor, who finds out who her dad is the boy in the picture and her aunt is Hannah. This is played with for Jessa; Taylor (a third party) finds out her father is the Hermit late in the story, but its unclear if Jessa connects her dad to the person who killed himself. A brilliant novel by the best-selling author of Looking for Alibrandi. Winner of the American Library Association's Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature in 2009.Ironic Echo: The territory wars started as a game, for fun, played by three groups of friends and ended as serious rivalry. Talking in Your Dreams: Webb dreamed of Taylor, which is where he got her name, and Taylor dreams of Webb, but she only knows him as 'the boy in the tree'. Note: I’m not sure where the words ‘On the’ went… I’m assuming it’s different for the British version and not that I have a defective copy.

The senior in charge explains that they've gathered in the creepy candle-lit hut for the "official passing-on ceremony," where Taylor will become the leader of Jellicoe School in the territory war with the Cadets and Townies. And while initially she was worried, she now broadly welcomed the scheme - although not all her neighbours felt the same, especially those with multiple vehicles. Seventeen year old Taylor Markham has been living on the Jellicoe Road after being abandoned by her mother at a local 7-11. The school she attends partakes in traditional games of territory wars where Taylor eventually becomes a leader. And now Hannah, the person Taylor had come to rely on, has disappeared. Taylor's only clue is a manuscript about five kids who lived in Jellicoe eighteen years ago. She needs to find out more, but this means confronting her own story, making sense of her strange, recurring dream, and finding her mother—who abandoned her on the Jellicoe Road. The Iron Duke was the work of the architect Arthur W Ecclestone, who designed a number of pubs both before and after the Second World War.
