Maybe people bought defective copies or it's all in the equipment some are using, but I don't understand the lukewarm comments regarding fidelity. For me, Bad is certainly the better album of the two, but it becomes complicated when Off the Wall gets thrown into the picture (as already noted in my review of that album, it's easily his most consistent work, but it doesn't have the highlights later albums did). I didn't listen to it enough to actually break the cassette, like I did with the fourth Led Zeppelin album (four times), but I listened to it enough that I still know a good half the songs, despite not having heard it in about 20 years. Look, even I, an avid Bad defender, will say that Thriller will forever be the man's masterpiece, and Bad isn't a perfect album by any means; the Stevie Wonder duet "Just Good Friends" isn't that memorable, and "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" is a far cry from "Human Nature" when it comes to MJ ballads (never his strong point in the first place), but.

There is a sense that he's trying very hard to impress on Bad where Off the Wall came naturally to him, and it's hard to know which side of that comparison to fall down on as far as picking favourites goes. White-skinned Michael looks directly into my eyes and deeply into my soul with a provocative yet vulnerable Mona Lisa stare that follows me ceaselessly. It was one of the first albums I actually owned- I had George Michael's "Faith" (which I'll tell you about when _he_ kicks the bucket) and "Bad" on cassette. There is certainly some vocal distortion on Dirty Diana, but that is minor compared to the issues with side A.

Also lots of background crackling noise - which just is confirming my thoughts about this pressing: it's bad. This is the reason why I believe most people will mistakelly add the 2016 Europe Repress to their collection, because of the lack of differences between these versions.

There's "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" too, which I don't like too much in the verses but has a belting chorus, and "The Way You Make Me Feel", which I can take or leave (ditto "Leave Me Alone", which was tacked onto the end of the album when it was released on CD). This is admittedly a weird and very British way to start this review, but the first thing I noticed about Bad was that this, much more than any other Jackson album I've heard, sounds and feels like the source material for the parodies of Michael Jackson peddled by Bo Selecta and, to a lesser extent, Weird Al Yankovic.

The problem with Bad is that the bad songs are really bad, to the point of taking the shine off the better ones. Both "Thriller" and "Bad" definitely represented Jackson at his peak, and they were preceded by the very impressive "Off the Wall", so he hit a home run with those three consecutive classics. Minor wear on cover (orangish discoloration from a marke r on the front lower right), no ring wear and no splits on inner sleeve. A side sounds quite good until Liberian Girl where some vocal distortion can be heard, and the problem gets even worse on Just Good Friends (some listeners may not notice, but to me it is a big deal).

I compared this press with the original Europe pressing on "another part of me" and the original pressing sounds better. In my opinion, "Mike" could have kicked off either "Just Good Friends" or that terrible "Speed Demon" to make room for it! Next, "The Way You Make Me Feel": an updated Motown-esque pop soul song, clearly Michael at his best. I really don't understand why this RP sound very bad between the original press, yes you will have more content but the sound it's definitely under the original UE pressure that i have. I got the typical whirry surface noise before/between tracks but I can't notice it at all during songs, and all-in all it actually sounds really good.
