A TV drama or the tennis, you’ll really feel part of the action. It almost goes without saying that there’s little by way of low-frequency presence here, but even if you decide to find out what those 20 watts are capable of the AU7100 remains a composed listen. The Tizen-based smart TV interface Samsung has been persisting with for the last however many years is so intrinsically correct that it only needs the most minor refreshes to keep it competitive. So while the AU7100 isn’t the only affordable little TV to be equipped with an easy-to-use and comprehensive smart TV portal, it’s nevertheless one of the very best around. Picture noise is kept under control, though, and edges are still confidently described. Motion, too, will remain smooth and convincing - just as soon as you’ve dived into the set-up menus and finessed the ‘Judder Reduction’ and ‘LED Clear Motion’ settings.

The response time of the Samsung 55AU7100 is about 19 ms. This is slightly worse than the similar parameter of the Samsung AU8000 TV . The AU7100 is a decent gaming display, although it doesn’t really highlight next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. New this year is the amazing Crystal Processor 4K which optimises and adapts what is on the screen for the best 4K picture and targeted sound. With some top-of-the-shop content on board (and Scorsese’s The Irishman via Netflix remains a revealing watch, even if the Samsung can’t handle the Dolby Vision element), the AU7100 proves a composed, detailed watch with plenty of pertinent observations to makes regarding skin-tone, skin-texture and the general facial condition of the film’s elderly cast. Colours are subtlety differentiated, with plenty of variation available where shadows, patterns and textures are concerned. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits)

Tailored content recommendations - spend less time scrolling and more time watching with recommendations from Samsung TV PlusWith Adaptive Sound, your Samsung television provides the perfect audio experience to suit what you’re watching. From the latest boxset to the beautiful game, your Samsung AU7100 adjusts the sound in every scene to what’s on screen, so you’ll hear every last detail. Smart TV at your fingertips Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Anything less information-rich than this can look somewhat rough, though. Picture noise gains confidence, edges get a little, well, edgy and on-screen movement begins to look hesitant and unnatural. Fans of vintage daytime TV broadcasts already know they can look antiquated, but the AU7100 proves less tolerant of them (or less capable with them) than some other ‘affordable’ alternatives. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output

If you choose not to log-in, you will only get connection to terrestrial TV (applicable to devices with tuners only) and external devices, e.g. via HDMI Unlike TVs with IPS panels , the viewing angles of the Samsung AU7100 TV cannot boast of unfolded width. Contrast and color performance deteriorate as you move from perpendicular to the screen. In other words, this TV is not for big companies. The image is formed by the Crystal 4K processor.Expressing over 1 billion colours on the 50" 4Kscreen, PurcColour, UHD Dimming, HDR10 + supporthelps to create true to life colours to enhance your viewing experience. See content exactly as the director intended with the UE50AU7100 offering premium quality viewing. The 50AU8000 also excels with its upscaling of sub-4K content. It adds a seriously impressive amount of detail and sharpness to HD sources, producing much more ‘4K-like’ results than most affordable 4K TVs muster. What’s more, it delivers its excellent upscaling results without exaggerating noise or causing distracting side effects. Motion looks reasonably natural too, once you’ve swapped the over-enthusiastic, noisy-looking Auto Picture Clarity setting for a calmer Custom mode where Judder Reduction is set to around three or four. There does seem to be a little more residual resolution loss in areas of fine detail during camera pans than we’d typically expect from a Samsung TV, but overall it’s still a good effort. Edge definition is clean, and with native 4K images picture-noise is little more than a rumour. Motion is handled with real assurance, too. If you want an affordable TV to make the most of your 4K content, the Samsung AU7100 should be high on your shortlist. While some colours look beautifully vivid on the 50AU8000, others, especially ‘nature’ greens, can look a touch subdued, resulting in bright HDR footage sometimes looking uneven and inconsistent.
