Speak to almost any professional in the DJ or music studio landscape about the most iconic headphones in the industry, and you’ll hear about the Sennheiser HD25 headphones. Ask most DJs and audio professionals and they’ll tell you that any true expert will have a set of HD 25s in their tool kit. I wouldn’t describe the T51p as fun, unless fun means enjoying music with an intimate presentation. It doesn’t have the punchy bass or sparkly highs, but it is a Tesla, so when you relax and listen closely you hear that Beyer/Tesla detail. But some people won’t like that anyway since it doesn’t have the big excitement factor. It really drove me nuts and I had to replace them. Since I was mad at Sennheiser I went with a different brand, at which time I learned that I really like a coiled, detachable cable with ONE connection point, and that I prefer over-ear cups to on-ear. originally got these strictly for Dj'ing. Been using them for almost a year for that. Never listened to music on them really. They are great DJ headphones.

Notable design decisions include the return of the sturdy steel cable which far beats the flimsy cables of the Amperior. The pads are also very much improved. Rather than the soft but brittle alcantara soft leather, Sennheiser now uses a much better quality, softer faux leather than the one found in the standard HD25-1. Likewise the headband pads also use the same leather. Behind the simple but sleek design, every component is strong and reliable. Lightweight aluminum voice coils support an impedance of around 70 ohms for excellent flexibility. A detachable single-sided cable with steel components feels extremely robust. They are balanced and flat in response meaning that they do not add any artificial flavor to your sound it is accurate and pure. If you are used to consumer headphones with enhanced bass response and warmth across the midrange then these will be quite jarring and almost lifeless sounding to you at first but it gives a far more accurate reproduction of the sound than many of the headphones you are currently able to buy. The sound produced by the HD 25 can best be described as lively. It’s a superbly open and accurate sound with a frequency range that starts at a wonderfully low 16Hz and goes all the way up to 22kHz. Unlike headphones designed for mixing, the HD 25 do not have a flat response thanks to a noticeable boost in the midrange that pushes the sound forward and gives it extra punch. The result is a superbly tight bass and a sound that feels much larger and more energetic than the compact drivers would suggest. It’s only after you use the HD 25 headset for a while that you discover just how amazing they are. The plastic really won’t break – no matter how much you bend or bash it.You should try the VK-1. I compared the ALU to it and found that it makes the ALU sounds light and hollow. Nasty comparison.

Today’s DJs rely on the HD25 headphones to perform in noisy environments, deliver the kind of noise cancellation you’d expect for a jet engine, and produce accurate reproductions.
