About this deal

While the recording capability is a nice addition (the Manhattan T3 Freeview Player, for example, can’t record at all), it’s quite limited. Then there are the apps – the Humax FVP-5000t doesn’t have Prime Video, or BritBox, or hayu – but it does have Netflix, which the Netbox lacks. So, if you’re not a dedicated Netflix fan, you’ll probably be satisfied with the selection of services on offer, and the Netbox 4K is a fantastic way of bringing them all together in one place, with an easy-to-use interface that makes streaming accessible for even the biggest technophobes. Netgem TV is an award-winning pay TV service that offers Freeview channels alongside premium content, with an emphasis on becoming a central hub for on-demand and other subscription content too. I’ve seen it grow from a normal satellite TV box to a “timeshifting” one and then, as on-demand TV increased in popularity, we got more choice and flexibility than ever.

Small and compact, the Netbox 4K is designed to blend in seamlessly with the rest of your entertainment system, meaning it won’t take up precious room on your TV stand or cabinet. From there, the Netbox 4K takes you through the setup process, where you can add parental controls and scan for Freeview channels. You don’t have to constantly jump between different apps and services to find what to watch – instead, you see recommendations on one screen, and once you choose what to watch – THEN you will be taken to the appropriate app. And while you’re doing that, it’s already trying to find and organise your channels in the background, sparing you the usual boring channel scan. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products.

Overall, the Netbox 4K is a vast improvement on the Netbox HD in terms of design and user interface, and we liked the updated layout of the Netgem app. The inclusion of YouTube means there’s plenty of subscription-free content alongside the service’s paid-for shows, including its rather excellent Karate Kid spin-off, Cobra Kai. No need to keep jumping around and trying to remember which streaming service is offering your favourite show. In addition to the channels, NetgemTV is adding 10 exciting new games to its recently launched video game hub, bringing the total to over 30 games available at no additional cost and without a need for costly equipment. The decision, which was first hinted at late last month ( here), marks a significant step away from the provider’s long-running use of the YouView ( IPTV) platform (something they originally helped to develop alongside BT and the BBC etc.

The new app-powered TV service will be available on mobile devices bundled with the UK’s first Freeview and 4K media streamer, the NetBox 4K. The front of streaming box also features a thin LED that indicates when the Netbox 4K is powered on. I have solved the issue by reversing the procedure and using the TV remote to control the Netgem box. What I did like is how Netgem took some of my favourite shows and highlighted them on the Home screen. Tastemade – Food, Home and Travel – From quick recipes to original series enjoy cooking and travel stories from around the world. From My Account you can also check your connection and test your line for any issues in the Service Centre. In the US and a few other countries, Survivor is available on Paramount+ (as its a CBS show) – but in the UK, the series never made it to our version of Paramount+. People who leave the traditional pay-TV services like Sky and Virgin Media for Freeview, sometimes have a hard time finding their feet without the cable/satellite interface they’re familiar with. Instead of a list of apps (or even channels), the Netbox always pushes you towards its own interface, where you get personal recommendations from across ALL the supported apps and channels. Then, you also get all the default Freeview Play catch-up apps: BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, UKTV Play, CBS Catchup and Horror Bites.

I am still discovering the netgem TV app but I quite like the idea to watch content across multiple devices, like my iphone or my ipad and keep watching my serie wherever I go. Some of these channels are available in partnership with SportsTribal TV after Netgem committed to strengthening their sports offer in June 2021. Can someone please advise whether this will work with the Netbox 4K, I don’t want to wait hours to talk to a tech that doesn’t know the answer. By the way, some HD TVs have a satellite receiver connector on the back panel which can be used wih a Sky dish cable feed into the living room.I don't have a problem jumping between devices, but my wife struggles and I need to keep things simple for her, so one box solution preferred. It's something different and it won't be for everyone, but it's worth checking out for many people who want a TV service but don't want to go the full Sky or Virgin Media route. Along with this came what used to be Freeview Play’s ace in the hole: the ability to scroll backwards through the TV guide and watch programmes that had already been shown up to seven days prior. It has everything you need, but the button-setup is a bit confusing, and the navigation buttons in the middle – which are the buttons you would use the most – are just plain bad, because they are too flat – so you’re not always sure whether you actually pressed them or not. They've got all the popular streaming services you love, plus a bunch of free channels that add an extra sprinkle of variety to your viewing options.
